A P R I L Cigarette Tax,..Who is quitting????

Quote:
Great Post Jena! I too used to smoke ... quit years ago as did DH, and he quit 2 years before I did. We both quit cold turkey- wasnt easy, and we fell so many times off that wagon, but we got back on and kept pressing forward. We did the same thing you did - put the money a pack would cost us and at the time, they were nearly $4.00 a pack in the 90's and early 2000's when they jacked prices up again - actually, they cost nearly the same thing they are now, so it shouldnt be a shock to smokers, the cost isnt much different actually - and we smoked brand. So we put the $12 a day we'd spend on cigs in a jar (3 packs a day, pack and half between us)... and WOW did that ever grow and FAST! $84.00 a week/$336 a month/$4032 a year - and thats if we only smoked 1 pack a day EACH - sometimes we smoked 2 packs each depending on the situation- so add another $4.00 to that total a day!

At the end of the 1st year, we used that money (which ended up being well over $5,000) towards our camper we wanted - and other little things.

it adds up - sort of like change in the change jar - we do that too.

Bottom line - like Jena said - keep pushing along and if you fall off, get back up and keep going! You can do it!

I'm in the process of trying to quit right now, I've been good for almost a week now and I honestly feel like killing someone

A pack of smokes isn't worth $5 to me, let alone $8 which is what people are saying it's gonna get up to around here. It'll save hubby and I money anyways...he's still smoking though

but cutting back. I went from a pack a day, to half a pack, to 2 to none.. which is probably why I'm so

right now lol

Hi HennysMom,

Sorry I was out for a while spending my cash....lol....I am now setting up a pond in my garden, and the ciggie money is paying for it all. lol....

Thank you for the affirmation. Someone told me once if I wanted to succeed...... get Mad, get very mad. just spend some time thinking of how the Tabacco Barons and the Politicians live and how comfortable they are .... believe me you will not want to put another penny in their pockets.

I have always asked if Cigraettes are so bad why don't they ban them, but of course it is better to take the taxes, and when the nicotime has killed us they save on pensions too. how dare they say that they are thinking of refusing healthcare for smokers.......we have paid for it more than anyone.

Anyway that is my rant..... leave them alone, put your nose up to the people who have been controlling your life through a cigarette, and ruining it. Take back control. lol.... It feels good. really it does.

I just wish you all luck.

get together and support each other, we did it right here...

I smoke....So does Hubby.....

more in my family smoke, than not....

I did quit while pregnant with both kids....started back up after I was done nursing....

We don't smoke in the house, only outside...
I don't smoke in the vehicles with the kids....

I heard someone tell me once, they stopped smoking when cigarettes hit 50 cents a pack....

gas prices go up....I still need gas to get around
food prices go up....I still need to eat...
cig prices go up.....I still buy them...I smoke...

I have stopped going ALOT of places around here, because alot of resturants (even bars) have went NON SMOKING...I personally think that's crap, but then that's probably jsut me...
I am sure non smokers wouldn't like it if they were to have to stop going places because they don't smoke...I don't want to start any argueements with my comments, so I will stop there on my opinion..lol

Nancy Polossi and Harry Reid were the perpetrators of this one.

The tax is suppose to be for the "S chip" program.

I tell my wife to say "Muchos Gracious" every time she smokes because the illegal aliens' children born in this country are some
of the ones that are benefiting. I certainly hope she quits, but
she is a real die hard on this one.

The tax is 63 cents PER pack. My question is how long does Nancy and Harry think this is going to last with out the companies figuring out a way to get around the tax. The tobacco industry has some of the most well paid lobby people in the history of our government.

People will quit and they will quit at an accelerated pace now.

The industry will HAVE to raise their prices per pack to make up for the revenue lost of abandoned clients. So here we are, an other industry under pressure from the government. I doubt that ALL this money is going to the "S chip" program.

A carton in Illinois costs over 50 bucks now from what is have heard.

My guess is that people will start to grow their own (illegal i know) or start to roll their own.

Normally I stay OUT of political threads, but not this one.

My wife says they should raise the tax on the alcohol our "representatives" drink,.

I have been stuck with this habit for 16 years Wow just think of all the money I would have if I saved it all.I tried to cut the butts a few times and only lasted a few months as soon as my kids were delivered and as soon as I could get outside there I was with a cigg in my hand.My DH hates them and will not buy them for me.Sometimes I have to go under the couch to find change witch is really sad.I feel like I am on some street drug when Im in public smoking and I have that feeling

"illegal to grow your own tobacco..."

ridiculous... before too long its going to be illegal to take herbs we grow in our back yard for medicinal purposes (st. Johns wort, valerian root, mashmallow root, etc). These are what big pharma created our current "nationalized" drugs out of....derived from - from wayyyyy wayyyy back in the day - like the natives did. Oh how on earth did they survive? *gasp and shock*

going to be illegal to grow your own food before too long because "its unhealthy, we *gov't* doesnt know whats in it" -cant eat a cow/chicken/deer/fish unless its stamped USDA on it..

oh brother....

I told hubby that every time he lights up, he is supporting Nancy Polossi and Harry Reid. Since he is a Republican, that isn't going over too well, but it might be motivational for him...LOL
