If reliant upon direct air flow and birds move to get into it, they may be inclined to bunch up. Normally when they get hot, they spread out so promoting bunching up would be counter productive.

I do not like using the fan facing inward because it does not cool off the barn as well and the chickens do not need it blowing directly on them.
