About to put day 34 Muscovy egg in lockdown and there is ANOTHER bruise! I just lost a duckling this morning and now this AGAIN! 💔

Yes, it makes total sense. Thank you.
So, there are no veins at all and no chewing.
I’m afraid to enlarge the hole any more because now I’m scared to do anything at all.
I know he’s going to need assistance, but when will I know when it’s time.
I allowed the last one to starve because I didn’t assist on time and I couldn’t bear to lose another one.
Tomorrow will be day 37, and I’m getting worried..

Thank you as always ❤️
Amy the duck didn’t starve he wasn’t even absorbed yet
He bleed out unfortunately
This happens when we force hatching to early
Please post pictures of candling him
And I will take a look

Good morning my friend,

Today is day 37, and he must have been working last night because he managed to make a relatively large hole.
I noticed at 2:00 AM when my daughter wanted a drink. It is now 8:00 AM and he stopped.
His peeping is so loud!!! Not little ones, but fast, mad sounding ones. Lol!
I was shocked to see he tried to get out because I swore I’d never touch an egg again unless I’m told by you or Beloved Birds!!! He’s dry and I’m hoping everything is dry that I can’t see.
Here’s how far he got.

When I took him out to take the picture I went to put him back in and out came his foot! Ugh!
I didn’t even touch the opening! 🤷‍♀️

This whole thing seems sooooo stressful but really are you going to hatch every single egg???? That's a lot of babies I'm also a huge animal lover i'de love to have tones of chickens but that might not be a option also the more you have the harder it is to bond still I think it's amazing how you are helping all these ducks hatch!!! I don't know how you do it I would of hatched all the eggs then not started any more still I understand where your loves coming from good luck!!!!
Good morning,

Your so sweet! 💕

We are going to have them sexed and have 2 females to each of our 3 drakes.
We know many farmers whom we’ve spoken to that very much want at least 2.
Your absolutely right, with too many you can’t bond, and Muscovy’s can be quite mean, especially the males during mating season.

We already have homes for the ones we are not keeping.
I’ll raise them in their brooder for 6 weeks and by that time they’ll go to their grow out brooder at their forever homes. ❤️

Blessings,
Amy

Any yawning or chewing motions?

You're planning on having 2 females for every 3 drakes? So more drakes than hens, together?

I would candle the egg not the air cell but around his head
He should be ready by now but to be sure just raid a look in the egg fit veins
If you don’t see any pic a little shell them moisten to double check for veins
If good take a little more ect until you can be sure all is clear
If at any point you hit a vein or he pushes out and bleeding occurs get them bleeding stopped
I gently but firmly press against the vein to stop it
If it’s the navel then I gently hold dry paper towel over it then add a little antibiotic ointment without pain Relief in it

Ok,
I just sent my hubby to Tractor Supply to get styptic powder.
He keeps kicking his leg like crazy, but I will candle him right now and look for veins. I’m so terrified of blood because of last time!
I’m afraid to do ANYTHING at all to be completely honest.
Thank God my husband didn’t leave yet to go on leave.
I’ll candle it and send you the photos.

I candled him and I don’t see any visible veins. I was able to get a look inside the egg with my flashlight and it just looks dry.
There is some extra room because he is into the air sac a bit.
I wish I could see his navel and yolk sac, as that is what scares me the most.

So, do you think I should begin assisting or continue to wait longer? 🤔🥺
I’m an absolute nervous MESS!!!!!
