Adopted a Hen...We think.

We adopted a Hen from the local animal shelter and she was fairly rough. Thin, patchy feathers, and a faded wattle. She was eating bird seed. Now that she's home, she seems like a he. 3 weeks of good layer feed and not one egg. She has tried to spur me twice early on but has calmed down. Our county has an ordinance against roosters and frankly we don't want chicks. Is This a roo? Also what breed?

That looks like a Buff Orpington rooster. You won't get chicks unless a hen goes Brody and you let her set on eggs.

Well crap! LOL. Thank you all so much for the insights. Not to be naive but what do you suggest we do with him now that we have him healthy? Is it traumatic to find him another place?
