I let her out of the pen today! She was displaying no signs of illness, and no signs of creepy crawlies either. So she faced off with the other chickens for the first time. She got put down by my OEGB - it was funny to see. So much spunk in that bantam. Anyway, the other girls are being fairly civil. There's some scuffling as they get sorted out, but not any real attacks. So, pictures!

Of course the roosters were the first to notice the pen was open. Honey seemed especially taken with her.

Then some of the hens and another rooster decided to walk in and see what was up, and forage for the food strewn about in the pen:

Here she is facing off with Plum, a chick from the summer:

And her first foray into the yard and into her new life as a free range bird:

As you can see, Honey was protecting her in that one, too. I think a little romance is blossoming. He was always watching her through the fence while she was penned and seems happy to have her out in the open.

Not sure about chicks yet - her 'chicken skills' are a little rusty. She runs like the dickens if any of the hens get too close, and when Honey did a little rooster dance for her, she freaked out and ran a little bit away like she thought he was going to attack her. He seemed so confused, poor boy.
