Advice please, How to deal with the neighbor and their dogs Update pg5

SSS, definitely. Being Nice doesn't register with people like your neighbor, and if she's unemployed, I'm guessing there's probably a valid reason (too dumb to actually complete any task!). If you haven't already, go Horsejody's post about her neighbor's dogs and her chickens. Read it thoroughly, since there's good suggestions throughout, and some great legal advice. I said it before, and I'll say it again, some people should be removed from the gene pool before they pollute it!

Maybe time for some skeet shooting in the back forty to remind your neighbor that you have guns and know how to use them. Pick a time of day that you know he'll be home and use the loudest shotgun/shells you can find. Next time the dogs are in your yard harrassing your animals, Get out the rifle and shoot the dogs. Leave them in your yard and call the Sherriff to make a report and pick up the bodies.

I wouldn't take anything in trade from this lady either. It is not wise as you could end up with some disease and lose your whole flock.

Make her pay or go to court. Keep her dogs contained or come pick up the bodies. From the Statute listed from another poster, you are certainly within your rights to shoot the dogs.

Call the Sheriff, give them all of your info-- then call AGAIN anytime one of her dogs so much as steps on your property. Show them the amounts you are out.

Take her to small claims court.

Letting dogs run wild is considered neglect. She could easily be sentenced with a fine and never being able to own animals again.

Sorry for your loss. Some people are just too stupid to have pets. I am currently taking my neighbor to court over something similar. I pressed charges. He will go to criminal court and civil court now. I wish you luck. Call the Sheriff. Tell them you want to press charges. In most places you can press charges for dogs causing damage. If the Sheriff is of no help (thankfully, we have a wonderful Sheriff's dept.), call the city or county prosecutor. Push the issue. You have been more than nice. Become the squeaky wheel. No more nice guy. Some people don't understand anything else.

As for chasing horses being just a game, it's much more dangerous than that. I am an experienced horse person. We put a lot of time and expense into training and desensitizing our animals. That is what makes them safe to be around. If dogs torment them in the pasture, not only can it injure or stress them, it can cause them to be afraid of dogs and more "predator alert." If you take your previously safe to ride horse out on the trail and a walker appears with a dog, your horse may react dangerously.

can you get near the dogs? or are they agressive to humans also?...because if you can get near them..catch them..and take them for a ride to the nearest shelter. OR pen them up and call animal control..i wouldnt ask my neighbors again! and who cares if she is broke?..not your dead bunnies...... but, i wouldnt shoot them either..thats cruel(in my opinion)...at least if they go to a shelter..they get a shot of something and they go quickly with no pain...but..again, thats jusy my personal opinion..i wish you the best!...i'm sorry for your loss!..

...DONT let them get near the horse again!..i bet they would kill the foal....they seem to be showing a pack behavior...which is VERY scary!

In your second post you said that she is supposedly a registered kennel. I'm wondering if it wouldn't help to make some noise to the proper authorities and bring some pressure to bear from that direction as well. Perhaps it is an illegal operation and she could be shut down on that basis. It doesn't seem right to me that a "kennel" operation would have dogs running at large.

I only read 2/3rd of the way through these posts..

I cannot believe you did not shoot the dogs after the first incident.

I would have been shooting at first sign of trouble..

I cannot believe the sheriff's comment about them sueing you.
If that is the case I would be all over the sheriff's a-- for him to do something, then. as long as he has your hands tied,it is up to him to protect you and your property..

I would include the sheriff in your lawsuit.. he is shirking his duty..

as far as your neighbor being unemployed.. I'm sorry.. Tough S--t
Get a job.. how can you feed a dog with no income?? Oh, I forgot, you just let them run loose and eat the neighbor's animals..

6 dogs are no longer pets.. that is a PACK and dangerous to even humans.. espeially to small children playing out in their own back yards.......

don't wuss out on this.. take up the crusade and GIT ER DONE !!

One last thought.. small claims court won't do any good.. even if the judgement comes out in your favor.. all that is resolved is that yes, she is at fault.. but here is the catch, it is still up to you to collect restitution without any help from the authorities.. you still have no leverage.. been there, done that...
