MESSY BESSY

Well, it's with heavy heart that I have to report we ( my husband ) put Scarlet down this morning. When we woke up she was laying with her legs and feet behind her. She had messed herself badly. The vet thinks she must have had severed nerves and the other day when one of her chick mates died I compared the two and although she was eating and drinking a lot.......she really wasn't thriving. She was much smaller in comparison.

I gave her a bath and wrapped her in a towel to dry and had to be with the babies I just got this morning. She was not happy to be away from us, and when we went to put her in traction.....I just asked myself " What am I doing this for? She'll never walk again. "

Add to that the fact that I actually have allergic problems when I have chickens in the house for too long, and it just wasn't working. Last time we had chicks in here I got a droopy eyelid and it lasted for two months.

I want to thank everyone for supporting me in my effort to help the little girl. I know you were all " Rooting " for her as were we.

RIP......Little Scarlet!
