Afraid to ask on my EE and SLW

my hatchery cockrels looked like that...but dark like OPs...seeing the rest of that bird definately makes me think rooster. One of my BLRW is around 11-12 weeks, and I thought it may be a boy (I just started a thread on him in this section), and his/her comb is not nearly as red or developed as that.

There are a bunch of pictures there of the bird in question for you to compare to if you want

Oh well, should make for an interesting looking guy. I wasn't sure about that one being a roo, but I was pretty sure the EE was looking roo.

Unfortunately not everyone who puts hens and roosters together is breeding toward the standard. Breeding subpar hatchery birds together just further deteriorates the quality of the stock, no matter how many generations they've been "breeding" the birds.

I've found that a lot of people call their hatchery birds "pure" and are 100% convinced their birds are EXACTLY what the hatchery lists in the catalog/website listing. There are A LOT of people out there who put male and female animals together and don't understand the first thing about breeding.

I hear you. I used to rescue dogs. Fostered also. Often times, when folks thought they were getting a pure bred "something" from the pet store of all places, they were disappointed when the dog didn't turn out like they thought it should, and it often didn't look like what they thought they were buying. So, it happens in many areas of the animal world.

I really want a SLW. Maybe I'll just get one from the hatchery this year. I'm not breeding them, I just love the lacing.

Another thing about this one that I have, it sure is small. Slow to mature for sure.

Thank you all! I didn't even think that the lacing on my bird was way off. I just thought it was taking it's time. Now I know!

well, I know some birds change their feathering a bit after a moult...I keep hoping when Jasmine moults, her lacing will improve

Im going to get her a sign that says "wide load"

I do know how a wyondotte should look when fully laced, I just couldn't remember how long it took. I got this girl a couple of years ago, and she was a sweetheart...she is broody here, had to make a run go along with this spot she is in.. had to edit..didn't hatch her! Got her as a chick..

Here are some of our birds from the spring-the hen is on the left, cockeral on right (these are from Foley lines). See how the boy has white "shields" on his shoulders-that's a roo trait-plus his comb was already getting red! Yours could be a mix, hard to say.

Wow! That's 10 weeks? I wonder if I got taken here, or if because it's from a breeder it is taking longer to mature? Heres' more pics.
