Wow nothing in a while..... Well, I hadn't candled in a few days (I'm not sure who is actually reading this or care but I'll tell ya anyway
) so I did tonight. every single one. Good news! All the stink from those two gross eggs is gone! no more stinkers! Also, took out 3 more unfertilized eggs I apparently missed. And I see chicks! Real chicks! exactly one week until Hatching for Shay's Flock of Fun mix (think that's a good way to put it!) and the minorcas! omg! 5 till lock down! I really need to get that brooder ready.......
So here's the final count until lockdown, I hope: 6 Minorca, 11 S+J(that's how they're marked), 7 BLRW, 2 silkie, and none of the 3 from our own flock. Guess our banty is just too little for our big girls! haha So 26 eggs! Considering I only lost 1 actual baby, I'm thrilled!
There's only one Minorca egg I am slightly worried about because it looks smaller and the air pocket is huge, but the veins look good and there's definitely a chick in there so I'll leave it be till lock down.
I love that I'm getting silkies and BLRW, but I'm soooo excited to see what we get from Shay's! The guessing will be very entertaining! Thank God it's summer! I will be "swimming in cuteness" as one friend put it! All the eggs are really good sized which makes it even more interesting to me. Because it's mostly laying breed moms (but some we don't know because they weren't in the coop! lol), but she has so many beautiful roos!
Somebody pinch me! I'm in heaven right now! Even without them being hatched yet, I look forward to coming home from work every day, especially a bad day, and checking on my eggs. Even if I don't touch them. My mom always says, "The key to happiness, is having something to look forward to."
