The nice thing about our future set up is that you go out the garage and into the 2900 SF shop, then down to the end (inside) to the duck area. Outdoor exposure is minimal.

I just read that in Siberia temps are at at MINUS -81 degrees. That cold has to spill down somewhere and they are predicting record lows in SOUTHERN California by the 22nd of December. Merry Christmas!

I haven't had as much snow as I will have come February...but....MY FENCE IS ALREADY SHORTER!!!!!!!!

The chickens are already able to fly up and perch on the top of the fence....

It was -9 here on the weekend. My 5' horse fence is buried in some spots. Tug Hill, upstate NY. Add shoveling enough to open the horses dutch doors, finally get to that point where you take a deep breath and enjoy talking to the animals before you head to the house...when all of a sudden the 2+ ft of snow that has accumulated on the roof for the last few hours...LET"S LOOSE! Jump out of the way while it piles up where you just shoveled. 4' high
New barn needs some adjustments...

I don't mind going out when it's cold so much as going out when it's WET and cold (be it snow or rain). I keep getting told it only snows here every 2 or 3 years, but we've been here going on 3 winters, and it has yet to NOT snow, more than once each winter! I'm looking forward to seeing the girls react to snow...

it's been so cold here that the ducks are running back to the house
and DEMANDING to be let in
they go uncomplaining to their night crates

sure makes my job easier
but we can't go walking around together when it's this cold out
and i miss that terribly.

today is warmer.....and raining
i put so much hay in the old pen ( that is now a day only pen) and i tarped it so excessively that i would imagine it is going to be dry in there
so i will sit on a hay bale and cuddle ducks

the chickens and baby chicks aren't out at all yet
spring..........

(but i say that EVERY year........THIS year i mean it!.......mostly......)
