ALABAMA!!

Anyone want to buy a house? The house next to me is for sale... and my chicken area is right against their fence.. Now my old neighbor loved the chickens, but I have heard quite a few visitors talking about my setup ("what is THAT?" "Are those... CHICKENS?!") Now.. not sure if it's a bad things, folks tend to be curious... but I am a really defensive person.. so I am not digging it too much.

I'm being nice (and helping myself out LOL) by putting up a partial privacy fence at the front of the yard, so you can't see the coop from the driveway/front door.. It'll keep my girls from hopping over the fence all the time. But they still get to enjoy my compost and chicken yard... they BEST enjoy it. Or else.. ;-)

I got eight chickens on Sunday! 6 RIRs, a BO, and a game hen mutt. Here are a couple of pics...(hope this works as I'm using Tapatalk to upload the pics from my iPad)

Quote:Nice!! That last pic I had to take a double look, thought I saw an egg on the ground, then noticed it was a stone!! LOL

Well, you're not too far off. They haven't quite figured out the nest boxes I've set up for them and so far, I've had one hen lay an egg sitting right next to me on the steps of the coop while I petted her, I found one lying on the ground beside the ramp, just out in the open, and I found one underneath the coop in a pile of dead grass. I DID find one lone egg in one of the nest boxes yesterday evening so maybe they will finally get the hang of it. In the meantime, I get to go on an egg hunt every day when I get home from work.

:lau Bring back some childhood memories, eh! heehee Fun!

We recently got in an order from Meyer's Hatchery, it was one of them deals where you have to buy a certain number of chicks.
I have 5 RiR pullet chicks for sale, well, 99.9 percent sure they're RiRs at least. They match the description and pictures!

I also have a young cockerel RiR that hatched three or so weeks back that is from unrelated and breeder quality lines, supposedly mellow tempered lines as well.
While it would be a short time before the two could co-exist in the same house, they would make a nice little starter flock. Plus, he is free!

We are down near Birmingham/Helena-ish area.

Yes, actually I do...four of my husband's golf balls are pulling double duty as egg stand-ins. I put the golf balls in the nest boxes yesterday morning and yesterday evening was when I found the one egg in the box. My fingers are crossed that today a few more will catch on.
