Oh ok! I was thinking those eggs your dad was sending were going to be here in a week or two....Sorry about that! Remember, you'll also need two quail racks for the quail......they only hold 20 each.

Oh, I was freaking about Dad's eggs too, but he managed to call the people and they will wait to send them til I am ready.
And about the Quail.
Let me wait til I have all the chickens done! LOL
If that is OK. And I think I am only going to do 20 at first. (If that's also OK)
I can get another 20 from you next year or something. LOL

Thats an awesome idea!

Aww, thank you Deb and Donna. Joseph has me wrapped around his little finger, being the only boy in the family, out of seven grandkids, he my moms only grandson, he's got everyone wrapped around his little finger!

I went to check on #3 and realized I've been calling her peanut for three days and now it has kind of stuck, I tried calling her other things, but it didn't feel right. I guess she'll be Peanut, it was unintentional, but it's habbit now.

We decided to keep my coop, and re-arrange(sp?) things for this year. So NO MORE chickies for me!
Deb, when I got the eggs from you, Jim said he built a feeder for your coop, do you have a picture of it?

We were looking at the layout of our property, and we would have had to move the exisisting coop, just to build the new one there, then move the old one to the place we want the goats. It would have been heck to do. I can manage just fine with the coop I have, it's a great coop. I only needed a bigger one because I have a chicken addiction!

So we went to Home Depot and bought the materials for the goats house. When we told people what we were buying the stuff for, they looked at us like we were crazy. Like we shouldn't insulate it, or need to use treated wood for it, or put shingles on it.

I just want them to be happy and healthy.

I do! Here is his feeder he built. Inside it's sloped downward so that the food will fall out the holes.....It holds two and a half bags. My husband is 6'9 so that tells you
how big it is

The tin is just bent to fit under the holes. If we were to do it different I think we would make the holes
a little larger. Sometimes you have to go in and shake it up a bit to get things moving again.
We also stuck a large diameter piece of wire across the tin so they couldnt scratch in the tin holder.....

Phew.!!! I'm so happy you're not mad! LOL
I was worried you'd be upset with me for not taking all 40 this time.!
PHEW!

Hey, I have a question for you also. Can you keep different breeds of Quail together?
One of my neighbors down the street has Cutornix? (I don't know if I spelled that right).
She said they are AWESOME layers, and offered me 20 free eggs!

Was gona get some eggs from her as well, and keep them together IF I CAN.
If not, well, then I'll stick with yours, or maybe build 2 cages. I duno.

I wouldnt try it...Maybe Tori has a different experience with them, but they will kill each-other. They are
vicious little things. They will even kill one of their own during breeding season if they decide to. Once you have
your little group of quail you can not add to them either. You'll have to either hatch out new eggs and replace your adults
or make two pens. I think Krystal has different breeds together, but I havent had the best experiance with quail so I just
count my blessings I have any at all LOL!

No way, me mad? I think thats the smartest idea you have had yet! You really have your hands full for a first time hatcher! !

Ohhhh, I think there are 13? No more than 15.....the other thing we did was place it on top of
a cinder block so it raised it up a bit. If we were to do it over again we would make the catch pan a little larger along
with the holes. It was just spare stuff we had around here and he had a hair...

Also the top opens from left to right so you don't have to hold the top open while your putting feed into it.
