They were developed in Norway around the early part of the last century. They wanted a winter hardy egg layer that was an easy keeper. They are also colored for camouflage to give them some predator defense. i got my eggs from Rosemary in Montana who thought they would be a perfect breed for Alaska. We're going to find out! She did say that they are prodigious layers of large pale ivory eggs.
I just love that word... and how often do you get to use it. Better if I spell it right though!
