I'm thinking he's MUCH smarter than we give him credit for! LOL
I grabbed the Shovel and went out there, and before I opened the gate, I looked at him and said: "Ok Rust, It's on now. So Bring it!", and I let them loose!
The hens were SOOOOOOO happy to be out! But Rusty never even TRIED to approach me when I had the shovel in my hand! He just glared at me. But the MOMENT I put it down, there he came! SO I grabbed the shovel, and walked him around the shed until he started running away from me. Little Stinker!
I stayed out there with them for like 15 minutes, and he mounted one of the Barred Rocks, so I shooed him off of her. You should have seen his face! He was like.... "WTHeck was THAT?" And then he just continued to glare at me, as if in utter shock and disbelief. It was so funny!

The kids REFUSED to go out there. Especially my daughter. She started screaming when I tried to pick her up. I won't force them.

The Hens, well, Yep, sure as Heck, once they are done laying, they will be eaten, but I just can't do that to Rusty.

Well, after a pretty crappy day overall, I just had to do the CRAPPIEST job ever! My broody sitting on her 10 eggs just 'blew her wad' all over the nest box! I mean the runny, nasty, smelliest poop all over everything! And today is 'lockdown'. I took her off (pecking me all the way) and wiped the eggs of with paper towel (don't dare wash them), then removed the poopy hay (have more clean hay, but it is outside....meanwhile the eggs are sitting out!) and got it decent and put her back on. Why do they do these things?????

None of my broodies so far have had much sense when it comes to getting off the nest to eat, drink, poop. What is their problem??? I have to make them get off once a day, and so far this one has never pooped when she was off and I was there. I even ruffle her up like someone on the forum said, and she still just gets a drink and gets back on. Oh well, just a nother couple of days......

Set the hen in front of food and water and forage, and let them be to eat.
They poo about half way through. I leave them alone for the process. Seems to help.

I do stop pulling them off when the eggs have pipped.
They seem to do just fine for the 24 or so hours it takes for all the eggs to hatch.
Then they hop up and start eating and showing the chicks what to do.

What I hope to see, is the second generation of hen raised chicks do better about getting off as needed.

my rooster used to be mean but then one day i got tired of it asked how to take care of it went to the coop grabbed the roo by the leg flipped him upside down then dunked him in water he was never mean to me again.i also did it to a friends roo that gave her trouble
