all who are hatching quail

I think he could possibly get out on his own. Great job helping him out!
Just make sure he doesn't get shrink wrapped by keeping the humidity up.

Here's the update:
He started trying to zip but I could see the inner membrane was drying out and getting stuck to him. I think this happens more with forced air incubators, like I have. So I took him out just to peel away the drying membrane and he started struggling his hardest to get out of that egg. I peeled a little membrane and he pushed a wing out and was busting out of the shell. I tried just getting the cap of the egg off and he just pushed right out! So I put him back in the incubator and went to bed. Hoping he'd rest and dry up and make it to morning. Before I even got out of bed this morning I could hear chirping. His feet were curled. Is this common with quail? I was wondering if they would straighten out on their own around the 24 hour mark like some species do. But just to be safe, I made little booties for him! He's doing good! Any input on the curled feet??

Idk how common curled get are but they should be an easy fix! Looks like you did awesome helping him out! He's so cute!

okay so i hatched 57 quail from my own eggs, all my quail are coturnix quail. so out of the 57 that hatched two of them are all white?!? why is this?!? are they albino? the feathers they are growing in are white too

How were texas am breeds created? Was it an isolation of the white that is being seen in hannahs coturnix? Someone has got to know here. I doubt if they are albino though.

White is a recessive color gene in coturnix. Jumbo browns were given the recessive white then crossed with other recessive white jumbo browns. They arent albinos. The white color was bred in in because meat birds look unsightly if the machines or processors miss feathers and the feathers are darkly colored.

Ordered 40 coturnix jumbo eggs from eBay.
Set them 17 days ago tonight. Float tested and candled them at day 13 before lockdown and only 28 were viable. This is my first ever hatch of anything and I am trying to keep myself occupied so I don't just watch the incubator!!

Gah.
It is so hard to wait.
Do the jumbos usually take longer?

I didn't incubate jumbo just regular and they didn't even start till day 18. Didn't hatch till day 19. I talked to a breeder that said they can go quite a few days past due date. And my temps were not low, but the eggs I incubated were old.

Thanks!

I'll just try to keep myself from opening the incubator and manhandling them. Not an easy task I tell you!
I have three children who are also very excited and asking 'when are the eggs going to hatch?!'

It's so hard to be patient at the end!! And the pips are super tiny, so make sure you look close at each egg. There may be a little crack and you don't even know it yet!! :)

I've had coturnix hatch a day early and a week or more late, with nothing noticeably different about health or fitness. Just be patient, and keep the humidity in check when they do start hatching.
