Debbie Downer, yes. Concerned for littering is not a downer. I see them as two seperate things.

Way to stay positive on such a serious topic. I agree sometime we get wrap up in touchy feely stories like this one but your right, it is litter. And after that broadcast there is no telling how many people tried the same thing. All we can do is hope there more people trying to do right than those who do not think first and litter.

Littering is throwing your trash out the car window, dumping your ashtray in a parking lot, tossing you lunch of the side of a boat. Careless and not thought out. Throwing a bottle with a note in it is not an act of littering, it is following tradition that has brought people together.

Littering is some moron flicking his lit cigarette out a car window in a traffic jam due to a WILDFIRE!

I don't see it as littering. If I found the bottle, I would pick it up and answer the letter. Then I had done a bit of clean up AND did something cool for the kid.
