The roosters in my bachelor pad always did the wing dance to each other. It’s not always about mating. I believe your lighter BLRW is a cockerel.Update: more pics! I was leaning cockerel again and threw him in the bachelor pad but this morning my 6 month old sebright did a mating dance at it... So either my sebright is a little too horny (this one is only 13 weeks!) or this is a girl. I also found another BLRW that came from the same bin of chicks at TSC, who is a darker blue, added some pics for a comparison. It looks like both have the red shoulders, but I really was thinking boy for the lighter (the one that started this thread) and girl for the darker one (don't care, just here for comparison). I thought I was seeing the start to some saddle feathers but after the Sebright I'm feeling confused.
Are you sure he’s splash? He just looks like a lighter blue to me.splash is a roo your blue is a hen

Usually it’s a lot closer to off-white than light blue.a lighter blue is a splash
I know I will get a lot of disagreements here, but I am still NOT convinced this is a cockerel. I looked as closely as I could at your new photos and I do not see any pointy saddle feathers. Laced feathers can be misleading as the pattern makes it look like they are pointy when they are not. This bird has very uniform lacing which is often a pullet sign. Combs and wattles are VERY deceiving in this breed. I still think you may have a pullet. Thanks guys!! Definite male then, and I've learned something new about herding dances... Chickens are so weird![]()
