Amer(I)cana? or EE?

Oh ok, I was getting confused because I didn't think anyone was talking about green, I thought willow had been mentioned. I'm with ya now.

I would agree that not all shades of green qualify as "willow." However, I'm sure that willow is a green color (hence the misunderstanding... you were talking about olive drab, whereas I was talking about willow green). I thought on Araucanas the brighter green the better... am I wrong about that?

Does anyone know if there's a spot in the Standard of Perfection where leg colors are illustrated/classified? That would sure be nice!

From the APA Standard of Perfection~

WILLOW: The dusky yellowish green color found on the shanks, feet and toes of some breeds and varieties of fowl; example Golden and Silver Duckwing Modern Games, etc.

Cool! Do you know what page that's on? I need to dog-ear that for future reference!

Now... if only I knew what "dusky yellowish green" looked like in person!

Here are some pictures of various birds from my flock... can anyone help me pick out which (if any) have "willow" legs and which are just green? All the birds in the pictures below are yellow-skinned.

Here they are:

(All three of these birds are yellow-skinned... but the leg colors are dull)

It seems like on the ACA forum, when someone posts a picture of a bird with legs other than bright green, people tend to ask "are you sure those legs are willow?" I guess that's where I got the impression that brighter green was better.

Ann alot of them have great looking legs..Other than that one roo looks like 2 different colors on him. You certainly have the color willow there.. I looked all over the net last night searching for a good close up but to no avail couldnt find one single picture of anything worth while posting..thanks for sharing

This also points out another one of the differences between araucanas and ameraucanas. Araucanas have yellow skin and ameraucanas have white.

wow, a rooster with two different colored legs?? Thats wild....

Oh and he is a gorgeous boy, he would be a keeper for me!

Jean, that may be so for the most part on Ameraucana.. But Ive got some large fowl araucana with white skin and yellow to, but its easy to breed white out...

However white leg color Is not a standard for large araucana or bantam araucana, one thing i noticed that in the APA book it doesnt show it as being a DQ for showing. Now on the araucana club it says it is a DQ..

Also there are people showing araucana large fowl with white legs and winning with them at shows...I just got banned at another web site for pointing that out about birds being showed with white skin/legs. How silly was that all over leg color.. guess they couldnt take the truth...
