Amer(I)cana? or EE?

Interestingly, at the last poultry show I attended, there was a man drssed in tattered rags, and he seemed to be preaching to a little crowd. His hair was long, and his face was dirty, as if he'd been in the wilderness for a long time. He spoke with a rather British accent.

Actually, he sounded a bit like Michael Palin.

This is what he said:

And lo, there will come a time when the people rise up and clamor for blood: but not chicken blood, no! They will cry out to the better businees bureau and to the companies of the cards of credit! The hatcheries and breeders will shudder as the breath of truth wafts through the pages of their catalogs and websites! Ebay will be cleansed! The Great Awakening is at hand! The falseness will flee like specters at the first cock crowing at dawn! Behold: for then the people will know the difference bewtween the breeds of the blue eggs, and the green!

I tried to speak to him about his prophecy later, but before I could, some people took him away rather roughly. Maybe hatchery thugs?

I sure hope nothing bad happened to poor fellow...

I got green legs and and I'll raise you a cheek muff!

Seriously though, this is an issue created by careless hatcheries, and if they would just be honest with their customers this whole controversy would go away. I also don't blame anyone who shows or breeds the real bird for getting worked up over the misconceptions because standards DO matter. If the hatcheries would just be honest with us and call them EE's when they really are EE’s I’m sure the vast majority of backyard hobbyists like me would be just fine with that nomenclature

All of them are great birds, we've raised all three.... EE'S, ARAUCANA AND BANTAM AMERAUCANA..Loved them all, but we dicide to stick with araucana with the rumpless and tufted traits..Love working with them as it is a challange..

Then the color gene pool is messed up in them, but that makes things even more interesting about them..

*Whew!* Well thank you for your help & input, I've spent the last year trying to get "willow" legs in my flock -- it sure would have been a shame if I had been breeding for the wrong color! LOL!

Thanks for searching for pics, even if you didn't find any. Let me know if you do come across something.

I know, isn't that weird? I was so surprised! I had no idea it was even possible for a bird to have two different colored legs before that guy hatched out. So far he is the first and only bird I've had like that.

Ann, Did you ever mate the 2 color legged roo? thats pretty awesome seeing that.

Wondering if you ever bred him? Be pretty neat to see what color his off spring would get, i know it would also depend on the hen. But it be interesting to see anyways if any chicks would come out like there papa..

Charlie,

I've not yet bred him, but I certainly plan to. I have a couple young pullets right now that will make great mates for him next spring. I'm very excited to see the results!
