Ameraucana mystery (sex)

I think we continue to have a mystery on our hands here....
Indeed...wonders how many posts will pile up here until you know for sure? :D

There was another thread not too long ago about a bird that ended up being male in front of body and female in the back...can't quite remember how the conclusion came about, I'll see if I can find it.

That's crazy, I had no idea that could happen!

Oh, yeah it sure can...I can't find that thread..but just search or google for "hermaphrodite chicken" or "gynandromorph chicken" and you'll find all kinds of threads and info about it.

I'm leaning more toward cockerel. My Ams have been very slow to mature while my hatched EEs (same sire) mature very quickly so I don't think the two should be compared for rate a maturity. Seventeen weeks is also very early for an Am pullet to start laying. They normally start closer to 6 months.

@tanyabee how sure are you that your other is a pullet? Can you post a side-by-side? Looking at what little can be seen of the white one, I see no real difference in feathers. And aggression is not a consideration when determining sex, IMO. I've got pullets right now that'll lay into a cockerel, even flare out their neck feathers.

I have done plenty of research on this, I find it very, very interesting!
