Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I just wanted to share a few pictures of my latest hatch. Bantam White Ameraucanas from Jerry Segler. It looks like I got 1 black and 1 silver in the bunch. He had been working on a project and was kind enough to switch back the roo for white and send me eggs, so I knew this was a possiblity. Here's to hoping those two are female!

19 out of 22 that went into lockdown hatched! Not too shabby for shipped eggs.

Ok all. My niece lost her 4H roo two weeks before the fair. She helps at my farm and would like to show my splash Ameraucana boy. I dont know much about showing this breed so can I get your opinions on what you guys think of him. I know he will have to be shown AOV, but she just really wants to show a roo. So here he is. All opinions welcome!

I like him. Good amount of color for a splash- he'll really stand out. I'm taking its just the angle of the photo and he doesn't really have wry tail.

BTW- I'd love to trade some Lav eggs for some GC marans when my girls finish thier molt....

pretty roo!

I am starting a flock of BBS Ameraucanas and have acquired hatching eggs and chicks from a variety of sources. I have six chicks which are supposed to be black/lav splits which are all developing a some strange feathering on their necks. Has anyone else seen this in lav splits? Here is an example.

I also picked up a few chicks I hoped would be pullets, and I have a blue which seems to have a bit of barring instead of clean lacing. I thought you couldn't get barring with slate legs? This chicks legs appear slate to me. Any thoughts?

Here is a pic of my blues from my WM eggs, just for contrast. The darker blue on the right is my favorite so far, I think he is a keeper.

Thanks for any feed back.
