Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I have the hardest time photographing this (girl?) since (she?) never is still, so I went with a video. I am assuming it's a pullet since the comb is still completely black and tiny at 7-8 weeks old. It is supposed to be a true ameraucana. The original owner bought it as an egg and sold it to me when it was about 3 weeks old since they thought it was a cockerel based on it's rate of growth. I am interested in opinions on pullet/cockerel, as well as any comments on whether it looks like a true ameraucana.

It's still too young to tell what sex it is. But if it is a true ameraucana it is pet quality. I wouldn't breed from it.

The eyes are black and the comb and face should not be black like that. It kind of looks like it has sumatra in it to me.

Go to the ABC website and do a search for gypsie face. There are some old topics where this was discussed. Also called mulberry. Not sure if the black face is recessive or dominate.

Can anyone tell me if my 2 lavender Amer. I hatched 16 weeks ago are hens or roosters? They don't crow! Lol

Really I got a pair? Yippee. The one with the red comb rooster? Why hasn't he started crowing yet? He's not aggressive either but when it was a chick it would bite the heck out of you when you put your hand in brooder!
