Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I posted in gender and breed before posting here and got different answers so I am hoping you guys can help me to know if this is pure Ameraucana or EE. I believe it is a roo. He's about 6 weeks old. :D Many thanks!

Question..... One of my blue wheaten cockerels (4 months old) has quite a bit of red in his tail, and black shafting in the hackle. Will that stay as he feathers out?

I have a question- I got some eggs that were suppose to be blue & black wheaten. the chicks look like they maybe that- but they have yellow legs- is that normal for wheatens?

.... will watch them grow

They seem to be Ameraucanas. Which is good! I am not a Wheaten professional by any means. The darkest ones are usually the roosters, like the bottom pick. That is a Wheaten cockerel. Top pick on the right looks like a Blue Wheaten cockerel. IDK if there are any Splash Wheaten cockerels or not, I cannot 100% identify those. The lightest creamy ones are more likely the pullets. Like I said though, you can mistake a SW cockerel for a pullet, until the feathers grow out. The pullets will have color on the tail feathers, and primaries for sure. For anymore info, I would have to read my SOP. Hope this helps, I am sure that other more veteran folks will speak up!
Heather,

I have some Wheaten chicks also. I know this is suppose to be obvious and some of them are but some are confusing to me. Will only pullets at this age have light colored breasts. If you have a light colored breast would you consider this a pullet?

Maybe, is what I am going to say, I am newer to the variety. What may help you is cockerels will always have dark feathers on there shoulders, neck/hackles will remain lighter.
