Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

If I have Blue and Splash hens, can I put a white (true white) roo over them and ever get white chicks? IF white is recessive, would it take several generations and a lot of luck? Same question for Blue Wheaten...

If you put the pullets back with their white sire you will get 50% whites in that second generation. Cull everything else. Do not put any of the mixes back into the wheaten family. Same for blue wheaten

Sorry this took me so long. I have 4 children and my husband is working out of town right now. That means some days are too hectic for computer time.

This is the blue "splash" I was talking about. A better picture including her feet. You can see why I was referring to her as splash. Now I know that those are just ink spots.

She looks blue to me. Blue is a leaky gene and you will get dark spots like that.

BTW the Colors are Blue, Black and SPLASH..... no such thing and Blue Splash.

I realize there is no such thing as blue splash. I just didn't know what to call the markings so made the mistake earlier of calling it a blue splash and got everyone wound up. It is not my intention to cause confusion, I was just showing the markings and explaining the reference.

I did NOT know that blue is a leaky gene. Thought that was very strange! Thank you for telling me. I thought it was color like black or white and that spots were defects. I probably still won't keep her.

Quote: White can be leaky too.... so can black, you see gold leaking all the time. I don't know if the spots are defects really..... maybe someone that shows will pop in and tell us if that would be points for spots or a DQ. I have never heard that answer. Like you I prefer an even blue all over but it is hard to get.

These pictures are of Papa's Poultry stock.
You can see why it is easy to tell the EE's from the AM's. As hard as I plan to cull, I doubt there will mistakes. I only plan to keep blue or black.
Several pictures of the feet.

He's dirty and I havn't decided yet whether the toes are an issue or if he is always just on the move. Please point out glaring faults that I may have missed.
This is the cockerel I'm leaning towards keeping.

That bird looks like quite young. She might molt those dark feathers out. Can you take a picture of her wing spread out like my picture below?

Did you see the wing pictures of my blue Cochin cockerel I posted a few days ago?

I bought him from a very respected breeder who said that he was still show quality. I showed him a couple of times and even spoke to the judge about his color/pattern after. The judge wasn't as concerned with his lousy pattern as I was, reminding me that blue is a really hard color to get. He also pointed out that the blue lacing in the Blue Andalusians was not the same as the blue in other breeds, that the Andalusians had not only the blue color (and its lacing) but a lacing pattern added on top of blue. (His background was in Blue Andalusians.) I've entered him in the Cochin's national breed club's current on-line show and will be interested to hear the critique on his color that the judge will give.

Breeders who have seen him are not bothered as much as I am by his pattern. Also, he is a Cochin, which might make a difference in what is acceptable and what is not.

Here's a picture of his wing:
