Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Lavender is a genetic dilution of the color Black, it's just natural to use Black when working with the color Lavender.

i know in silkies they breed it to diffrent thinks

I got a Sportsman 1502 last month & didn't think I could possibly fill it. Well -- It's filled to capacity & I had to fire up my old LG styrobator to take some eggs from this hatch! I saved all my egg selling money & got a good deal on craigslist, so my chickens paid for it.

Going to save my chick money now to buy a hatcher which I was sure I wouldn't need...lol.

Sick, isn't it Renee? I didn't think I would fill this one at once...especially so soon. It is such an addiction! I also have a few LG's that are on standby for overflow.

Are you showing this year? I hope between Karen, you, Sue and me we can get some interest going. Would be a ton of fun!!!

Yes, indeed, Meagan... it is quite an addiction! I actually bought eggs & had to sell some of mine so I could fit them in...lol!

Definitely showing & we will all have a great time!!

I have to work tomorrow, so won't be able to make the FFC meeting. I'm also toying with the idea of entering a few in the show in Hamburg May 22nd. I'll probably just bring a few that I'm really confident in to test the waters.

Except, that TRUE Porcelain is basically a Mille Fleur type with Lavender color to create an "Isabel" patterning. What they've created is simply Isabel patterning from lavender in the form of, well, Lavender and yellow smudging here and there. If you took the Lavender out of them, you'd get a bird reminiscent in coloration to Easter Eggers.

I'd actually love to see if Porcelain shows up well and looks good on Silkies, but so far I've yet to see true Porcelain on them. I've seen a mottled Silkie before, and it was pretty!

Anyway, back to the Ameraucana topic.

And, as a little news - Though it is only day 4, my 10 Ameraucana eggs I set in the incubator today turned out with only ONE being a definite fertile egg w/today's candling. I'm really let down, but hey, I've got a second incubator ready to go pretty soon. . .

So I have this chick from my John Blehm order, I think it's a Wheaten but I'm starting to think otherwise.

It's down is a pale yellowish color but it almost looks like it has blue/gray hues, too. That doesn't really make sense though as John doesn't breed Blue Ameraucanas or even Blue Wheatens. The chick almost looks like a overly yellow Splash chick. It was kind of hard to capture in photos but hopefully y'all will be able to see what I'm talking about.

In our order we got Wheatens, Buffs, Silvers and Lavenders from John. If it's not a Wheaten, my second guess is that maybe it's a very, very pale Lav chick?

Unlike the other Wheaten chicks, this one isn't getting anything but white feathers coming in.

The other Lav chicks have a dark slate leg already, most of the others have orangey pink legs. This chick has legs somewhere inbetween...

Sorry about the picture overload. What color do you think this chick is?

White? Does he do whites? I can't remember.

That or a recessive white popping up. I don't know about Blehm's stock, but my first Wheaten/Blue Wheatens had that. The ONE male I hatched out of the first eggs I purchased, bam! - white male.

Nope, no Whites either.

I thought that too, but then I looked at the order form again and he doesn't breed Whites.

I wonder if it could be a recessive White though...

This chick is #51 of our order, an extra. I think I'll hold onto it and see how it feathers out. I just really wish I knew exactly what it was.
