Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Look close to the base of the feathers. What colors are they and what are the intensity of colors? If dark brown/copper/black then boy. If lighter "pastelish", then girl.

Question about what the "IDEAL" Blue Wheaten rooster should look like.

I have three Blue Wheaten roos that came from Wayne in Wisconsin. All three have different intensity copper/blue ratios. They're only about 3 months old so hard to tell what they'll look like mature. But I need to try and cull some roos the best I can.

Can someone post a picture of a good Blue Wheaten roo?

Not crazy about his tail angle, but I like his color.

I'm trying to figure out who to cull at 3-4 months old. lol

The wheaten and blue wheaten variety changes so much, that I really wouldn't cull for " pattern" that early. I almost always wait to start culling my line until they are around 20+ weeks. You could cull for obvious body type things though, like crooked toes, wry tail, very light legs that aren't making any improvement, etc.

What about a clean faced cockerel?

I'm going to start cutting my "male" numbers down too.
