Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

The only reason someone would do something like this would to be to make blue wheatens from wheatens when there is no birds available to them. This would take many generations to get the color back and I believe this is how the original blue wheatens came about.

Ok. The way they were advertising it is you are getting pure blue, black, splash, blue wheaten and wheaten. They did not tell me what generation they were on. The pics they sent me of chicks you could tell they were not pure colors. I saw parent stock too and they looked okay, if i would of saw the parents pics in the first place I never would have been interested. Looked like hatchery qualitiy birds

Patiently waiting for her to lay her 1st egg. 22 wks old and sweet as sugar.

Jean,

While I am new to a lot of this, my understanding is as follows:

BBS Ameraucanas - Black, blue, and splash are the normal colors of this variety. The paring combinations of these determine the outcomes.

WBS Ameraucanas - Wheaten, blue wheaten, and splash wheaten are the normal colors of this variety. Likewise, the paring combinations determine outcomes.

e.g.,

Correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is that the WBS Ameraucanas genetics/coloration works in the same mannner as the BBS ameraucanas. Substituting Wheaten for black, blue wheaten for blue, and splash wheaten for splash in the above chart.

If this understanding is off or can be further enlightened, I would appreciate your thoughts as well as some links to improve my understanding. Thanks in advance from someone who is still learning.

She had really nice coloring on the tail before, and I'm hoping the new feathers have it. I really need to handle her more. She did NOT like me following her with the camera.

I was asking her to learn. She's the first pullet that I've hatched from the birds I have. I'm surprised she looks as nice as she does. I'm not sure which of the hens was the mother. There are 4 of them it could be.

The brat will not let me get a top view, she totally freaks if I'm over her.

She's growing in about 6 or so feathers in the tail area, and has a lot of pinfeathers. I apparently should have waited to take pictures.

Her crop is full and feeling she might be kind of skinny in the chest area from what I could feel.

Thank you for the additional pictures..it helps not only you but others looking to learn..the other pictures made her look narrow. and made her look like she was standing on her own toes..theses pictures allow you to see she is not too narrow. You can imagine placing your hand under her chest and fitting your hand under her.. She has nice toes. They are spread well and no curling. She looks like a healthy bird who will lay for a long time. Her tail does not look as pinched in the rear with these pictures. You see a tent. It does not tip to one side or the other. Only two things I see I would change. Her neck length and more meat on her chest.(This is my individual and personal opinion).

This is a nice bird and I personally think it is a good bird structurally. I see no structural faults that would prevent this bird from having a healthy long life and lay many eggs in her life time.

I have my own interpretation of the SOP ...and I respect every ones opinion and individual interpretation. I do not want to be attacked or challenged for wanting to help others who ask for help.I do not want people spending time looking for my mistakes and misspelled words. Please spend the time helping people who ask for help. Give your own opinion and share your knowledge to the people who ask for it. We can all learn from each other.

I was giving my own opinion to Hinotori. Sounds like you may need to get thicker skin.

Please don't treat people as if they are children and you can tell them what they can or cannot do on an open forum. I have followed the rules of the forum and simply gave Kim an additional point of view.

You are correct in understanding breeding blue, black and splash and wheaten, blue wheaten and splash wheaten. The problem was that the person was breeding the wheaten varieties and the blue/black varieties together. These colors are based on different genes.

How does this pullet look? I tried to get good pictures of her, but I didn't want to stay out in the misting rain with my camera so please forgive the slightly out of focus. She's 26 weeks old now. The top feathers on her tail aren't back in yet.

I think she is pretty nice looking. It is hard to judge a couple of things about her (tail & neck). She is probably moving in this pic??? Her tail is growing in it seems. I think you took more pics of that. I try to read everything before I post so things aren't to redundant. I love her tail carriage. She seems to have a flat spot between her neck and tail, a little long. Does her neck normally seem this short? I will have to look at the other pics again. To be continued.................................
