Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hi Celestialdreamer,

Chickee, is an experienced breeder of Wheaton, and Blue Wheaton Ameraucana. Her birds are beautiful! I purchased chicks from her and they are simply breath taking. Chickee, is on this thread as well, and can find her posts if you go back couple of pages. Also, she is a delightful and lovely lady to deal with.

Thank you. I had originally looked into a breeder near me that was well known but I guess they are no longer doing poultry. I had read a few reports that some of theirs occasionally hatch clean faced and honestly I would not want that anyway. I want those nice fluffy faces! I will contact the person you recommended about some hatching eggs.

You are welcome : ) If you go to page # 2339 on this thread, you will find Chickee's post. She has photos of her fluffy faced birds on her profile page . I understand your dilemma of trying to find a reputable breeder.. I hope this works, and best of luck to you.

Feed stores get their chicks from hatcheries. Not all TSCs get their chicks from Mt. Healthy, but I think many of them do this year. Mt. Healthy sells only EEs and advertises on their site as "Ameraucanas/Araucanas", which is tells everyone that they are clueless since those are two entirely different breeds and they sell neither of them.

There is also a supposed reputable breeder in Maryland that sells blue wheaten/wheaten AMs. I bought some chicks last summer from her. One of the wheaten AM pullets grew out completely clean faced. No muffs and no beard. I have since heard from others who had purchased previously from her who have had the same problem.

If she was truly a reputable breeder, she would have eliminated this genetic defect a long time ago. Obviously, we will never go back to purchase from her again. She also posts and sells on BYC.

Can someone suggest a reputable place to order nice quality hatching eggs for Wheaten or Blue Wheatens? I'm hoping to start a very small breeding project and hatch some nice stock to start out. I'm not looking for necessarily super expensive show birds, but I would really like to get some that are true to the breed. I'm proficient enough with our incubator that I am willing to try out some fancy eggs now. Thanks for any help!
It would be nice if you were to show your state of residence in your profile. Some of us might have eggs available, but don't like to go to all the trouble of packing them properly for mailing. If I knew you were close enough to make pick-up practical, I would have responded. Just trying to be helpful

X2 . It also helps when sending email inquiry's as not everyone has the required papers for every state.

Yes, it sure would help us. I have some beautiful Belgian D'Anvers and this season, I have eggs available, but I do not pack and ship eggs any longer.
