Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Sounds like I need to take the Jeep on a road trip. Cover the country hauling birds here and there.
What Evers left in jeep when I get back is mine!!!!

Then come to the Smoky Mountains first. There might not be any birds left in the jeep after the visit.

Here is a question for everyone . Would there be any interest in lavender and black/lavender day old pullets . I am thinking of offering these next year . I see a lot of people short on pullets .

If they are coming from you, people would be crazy not to jump at them. I'm trying to stay focused on just two varieties. I think I can, I think I can...

Thank you for being honest. that makes me want to cry. I guess I'm to trusting and have to learn the hard way. Were is a good place to get true ameraucana's. Preferably blue wheaten or lavender. Someone who has good quality and honest.

Aw don't cry. [virtual hugs] Here is the Ameraucana Breeder's Club page, look for their directory:

I'm not sure where you are but their should be someone within a reasonable distance of you. If you find a breeder that's not registered, ask them what color varieties they breed. If they don't know, or they give a variety that's not on the list of accepted colors and they don't say it's a "project color" then that's a big red flag. Ask to see pictures of the parent stock and then compare them to the pictures on the Ameraucana Breeder's Club webpage. If they don't look like any variety on there, that's another red flag. You can always post here and check with the experts before you buy.

Good luck!

It was definitely the Blue Wheaten. He greeted me with a crow this morning.

I was on Classroom at the coop today . I saw a picture of a wheaten (not Ameraucana ) that the caption said that the black was starting to cover the red in the breast . The breast had been all red . So this may be a rare twist on wheaten that the breast turns black late . IDK . Just thought I would throw that info out there .

I heard back from Paul and seems the cockerels from this particular mating have an issue. The hens seem to be just fine. And, as expected, "Don't breed him". So, I have a little stand alone blue wheaten hen. Doesn't really matter I guess, cause they were from the same breeding pen and I assume that is a no-no. Looks like I have a Lavender cockerel and a lavender hen from the same pen, but I think with the black hens I have, I can work around that. Unfortunately, I do not have a black cockerel. Thoughts, please

And, by the way, what is Classroom at the coop?

Lavender splits are black . I added a lavender split hen from Paul 2 years ago to my lavender pen . I got some nice split cockerels from her as well as lavender. I would use the lavender cockerel on your black hens . Then use a split cockerel back to the black hens .
Classroom at the coop is a forum for discussing chicken breeds and genetics .Do a search . Should be easy to find .

Yes. Make a trip to Arkansas and I can supply you with a black cock and a blue wheaten cockeral. Or get Roosterlew to make a trip for you. I'd be on his way. :D:D
