Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

BOO(my blue AM) finally laid her first egg!!!! I thought she was traumatized for life... If anyone recalls she was shipped across country to me in July last year as a had been laying pullet, and never laid an egg one.... When I posted her pic on BYC at one time I was told she was too young to lay at that time so figured the person that sent her was mistaken. Well she laid the most beautiful deep blue egg today, I thought my EEs eggs were pretty but they pale compared to her.
I did my best with my phone cam to catch the coloring but my ph cam sucks but here it is next to one of the EEs eggs.

OMG!!! That's the most beautiful blue egg I've ever seen! You should seriously get a BBS rooster and breed her; I'd buy from you based on egg color alone.

I'm so jealous! What beautiful babies and eggs

Has anybody noticed how often the roosters do the wing slapping thing? I've had my fair share of roos, and no other breed has done it so often. It's cute- but sometimes one of them will creep up behind me and all of a sudden start clapping.

Wow - that egg color is beautiful!!!

I've been reading a while, but was waiting to introduce myself until I had some pics of my birds. My name is Beth, I live on the southern coast of NC, and I hatched these guys/gals from eggs I bought from Wayne Meredith:

3 black hens:

Right now this is the cockerel in with them (that's not white on him, it's from the flash):

There are also 2 other Wheaten hens that are going to the the laying flock because of their sparse beards & muffs, but right now they are all together because, unfortunately, I don't have a cockerel to cover them. The one in the background has a defect and should have been culled sooner, but, being a newbie, I mistook it for an injury, so won't be hatching any Wheaten/Blue Wheatens until I find another.

Just got back from the show in Monroe last night. My birds didn't do as well as they have over in Montana.

My black cock bird got beaten by my white cock bird. I haven't shown him before since he has been in the breeding pen. The black generally gets Best AOSB and sometimes Reserve Show. A white araucana won the class this time.

Anyway my white cock got Best of Breed and BV. My black cock got Reserve Breed and BV. I took some other varieties and they all got BV because they were the only ones there.

Royce's wheaten hen/pullet got BV in the wheaten varieties.
