Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I had chicks that looked exactly like 4 & 7 a few months ago. They all ended up to be wheaten hens. Even though that blue was there, they developed black tips on their tails and the blue blended into their under-feathers.
Royce told me to watch for DARK feathers coming in on their backs. That doesn't constitute dark to me- not yet anyway.

I looked back at that post - It helped a lot! I've been keeping track of and noticing one of my pullets since chickhood has always had an enormous set of muffs, and so I really hope that atleast she has MbMb, I'm definitely going to get rid of my clean faced blue cockerel, but the rest I'm not so sure on. Perhaps most of them should just be kept for their eggs, and nothing more.

I'm learning each day, and so perhaps sometime soon I really need to get some amazing stock to either improve or replace my current Ameraucanas. I have one line who conformationally are great, but have minty green eggs. I have another line who have a dull or pale blue egg, but seem to sport out clean faced birds on occasion, as I have one who is so.

If I showed pics of 2 month olds, would it be easy to judge their muffs/beards? Because my pic black cockerel right now is getting a pretty decent set, and it seems some are leading in the size of their muffs and beards and some are nearly or actually clean faced.

I'd love to work to a good, nearly perfect stock of Ameraucanas.

And right now that would be with BBS, as it is all I have for the next 21 days.

Well, dangit. I was hoping it was a girl since it's so cute!

That makes sense though. I figured there had to be something sexlinked with them. I wish the girls were the ones showing color variety though. I like variety! When I did all those crosses through the chicken calculator, it had everything coming out black. It was a big surpise when the brown baby and the silvery baby popped out.

Thanks for the genetics help!

About a week ago I decided that I would try taking out certain birds from the AM pen again to see if they will settle down a little. I took out Brusco my lighter blue roo as he is a little more aggressive with the girls than Art. Well something is going on because I finally got an egg 2 days ago after no eggs for more than a month, of course she layed it in the coop yard. They don't seem to be as freaky even when I go in to the coop and someone is roosting they don't kamikaze dive to the poop door anymore, they just jump down and run outside. Hope they keep it up!

Thanks - your female chick did look just like two of mine do now. That would be awesome if I only end up with 2 roos out of 7! My two obvious roos do have DARK splashes on their back.

The 2 oldest bantam Ameraucana chicks I hatched from Little Ameraucana Mom moved outside today with their brooder mates...they are having a blast!

Here's my fave:

I think it's a roo, please tell me it's a roo...I know the pic is probably too far away, but the comb is definitely pinker than the other one (sorry, I can only get pics on my cell right now)...

Handsome! You know, I just saw today that my BW cockerel, Levi, who is six weeks old, has his shiny gold saddle feathers coming in already. Seems early from my past experience, but could just be that I am seeing them because they are so different-colored from the feathers around them.

I have a bantam black ameraucana pipped! I just want some blue/green egg layers. I also got my egg color charts and a bantam ameraucana handbook for my wait I will be reading it before bed tonight.
