Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Me too. This is like the opposite of the lavender bantam cochins- I didn't like the way they looked because they seem too "d'uccle", but I love the ameraucanas that are

OK....I went into the American Breeders Club and looked at the standards, but it didn't answer my question. Right now I am only interested in the Blue and Black Ameraucanas. Someone sent me this:

black x black = all black offspring
black x blue = 50% black, 50% blue
black x splash = 100% blue
blue x blue = 25% black, 50% blue, 25% splash
blue x splash = 50% blue, 50% splash
splash x splash = 100% splash

Where could I find info like this? Does this look correct to you guys?

It is accurate. They call that "BBS" for black/blue/splash.

I just looked on the ABC Breeders Directory and found several names listed in your home state, jlgoinggreen. I bet any one of them would gladly help you out if you contact them.

do you have a ameraucana breeder club egg color chart?

I have an image on my computer but I need to order the real thing.

I appreciate all the nice comments and encouragement. I like what I have, too, but I am also realistic about the improvements that need to be made.

Take this male. I personally consider him the best of my three lav males. But guess what. He's carrying a single copy for muffs. I know this because he's throwing clean faced chicks. Will I cull him? No, not this year. He's the best one I have right now. But I'm not keeping any of the clean faced chicks, either. Will I cull him next year? Yes, if I have something better.

You have to start somewhere. I posted pics of all my birds on the ABC site for constructive criticism feedback. I was pleased when I got it. My feelings did not get hurt when my birds were called "poofy" on this site, either. They ARE poofy! lol

You took the words right of my mouth, that's the main reason I have English type Orpingtons- the poof factor!

Since we are discussing type, etc... one of my main goals this year will be to increase overall bird size, body frame and weight.

Any opinions, or recommendations on how this is done?

I was wondering if anyone could help explain..since you all are awesome and so helpful

I receive Blue, black and splash eggs..I asked when ordering them from breeder, does that mean I can get a blue or a black or splash..she said yes

Today they all hatched..bantam amerecaunas..5/5 that made it to the final lockdown

Each one is dark with light chest..like a white

Is that splash? Another words they look all the same

I guess iam a little disappointed because I had assumed one might be black, one might be splash..so forth

So if every single one is black with white chest and tummies

What are they?

And if that is splash, does that really mean she sent me really all splash eggs then

Each egg was marked with a b

Iam just trying to learn what it truly means when someone sends you
BBS

Thank u

The one in the front looks like a blue. Try looking at them without the red light- it will make blues look black- I've done that myself! If you can see their tiny wing feathers when they are a couple days old.... Sometimes it all depends on how many chicks you hatch- there is no rule to how many of each color you will actually get, just average percentages. Congrats on your hatch!
