Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Jeanine your girl is doing great!!!!! She lays the best colored egg of all five of the Smith splits. She lays one almost every day, too.

I like the splash. I'm glad there is a renewed push in the breed club to have them recognized. Probably get recognition of splash before lav the way things are going....

I can see I missed a bunch of posts. Will try to cover several here. Hope y'all don't mind...

Dellana, thanks for posting that Toe Punch Chart. I have the same one and have added a "balloon" comment to beside each example where the # would go. So Happy, if you'd like a copy of that, just email me and I'll send it to you.

As you can see, one can have up to 15 combinations - 16 if you count "0", which the chart shows as "Unknown Parentage". At one time, when I first started out, I had 15 separate lines. Can't imagine why anyone would want more but I am familiar with Paul's "slit" method as well. As for me, I've been trying to get down to just an A & B line of Wheatens and an A & B line of BW's. Probably SW's too one of these days. Then I will line breed inside each line unless I absolutely have to go out. For example, I will breed A to A and B to B and when I need to outcross, I will cross A to B. If I should ever have to go outside of A to B, I can always cross the A or B Wheaten line over to the A or B Blue Wheaten line. At least that is my plan right now.

Christie, I think Cindy explained the toe punch method pretty well and you probably get it now but, if not, email me and I can send you the chart I mentioned above.

Dellana, yes I was talking about Smith's Poultry online. But now that Dellana mentions it, I think it was Cutler Supply! Thanks Dellana! I think it was Smith's Poultry that I called and got some cranky old gal who said she was the owner's wife and just wasn't very nice at all. I don't care if it is only $3.95, I won't give that kind of folk by business. The folks at Cutler were super friendly!! My recommendation is to go to Cutler! And let 'em know that folks are praising their customer service. That's how we make a diference.

Cindy, I'll send you an email on your nice offer.

I think that's all for now...

God Bless,
