Ameraucanas vs EE

Quote:
First, Sandhill actually says they are of "mixed color" and "are not of APA Standard Quality"

Second, EE's do not all, especially the ones from hatcheries, conform to having willow legs, the same plumage, the same body type, the same comb type, or even muffs and beard.

There are yellow legged, slate legged, and green legged EE's out there. There are clean faced EE's out there. There are single combed EE's out there. And the biggest part is that most EE's are NOT the same color. . . They vary from having dominant white, dom white influence, BBR, Gold Duckwing, Wheaten, Partridge-type lacing, and even blue in them. In fact, even the ones with a color you might put a label on aren't true to the color. The closest is a pure white EE, because otherwise even the BBR or Duckwing or Partridge looking ones have a LOT of flaws for being called so.

Don't get me wrong, I myself have Easter Eggers, love em to bits, and find they're just as good as Ameraucanas. . . I just don't like that businesses can convince people they're the same. It is the same as convincing a bunch of people, then a bunch of businesses, that anything that looks like a Pit Bull is automatically one.

Apologies for sounding harsh.

"araucana"

What are the major differences between Ameraucana and Araucana chickens?

Both breeds lay eggs with shells colored various shades of blue, have pea combs, and should have red earlobes. Beyond that few similarities exist in specimens meeting the requirements of recognized poultry standards. Perhaps 99 percent of chickens sold as Araucanas (or Ameraucanas) by commercial hatcheries are actually mongrels (aka Easter Egg chickens), meeting the requirements of neither breed

Punky you quoted Murray McMurray.
I said to read what Sand Hill said,
Quote copied from their catalog:

Ameraucanas
Breed notes: Ameraucanas are sometimes called the "Easter Egg Chicken" because they lay green, blue or olive eggs as well as brown. Many places list "Araucanas" but they are really "Ameraucanas." Araucanas are rumpless and have ear tufts (tufts of feathers that grow from the ear). Ameraucanas, however, have a tail and a beard or muff (which is a group of feathers located under the chin). Our Ameraucanas that are mixed colors are not of APA Standard quality. They lay an assortment of colors of eggs though only eggs of "greenish" shades are incubated. Our Black Ameraucanas and White Ameraucanas are both selected for the APA Standard. While the APA Standard calls for a blue egg, I've yet to ever see in anyone's Ameraucana flock what I would call a "blue" egg. Most I've seen are shades of "greenish blue". This is why we list ours as laying a greenish blue egg. Ameraucanas have a pea comb.

Ameraucana A mixture of types and colors. These are not exhibition stock, but are very good sized and make a hardy dual purpose fowl. While we select for all breeders to have beards (muff of feathers under the chin), occasionally, some chicks will not. Egg color will vary between pale green, olive green, occasionally brown, or olive green with brown spots. Chicks $3.00 each (20) (SOLD OUT FOR THE ENTIRE 2010 SEASON)

Black Ameraucana (MISC) We were fortunate to obtain two different blood lines from show quality stock. These are pure black birds with beards and they lay greenish blue eggs. Chicks $5.00 each (10) (SOLD OUT FOR THE ENTIRE 2010 SEASON)
White Ameraucana (MISC) Pure white in color, bearded. Good layers of greenish blue eggs. Leg color can vary in this breed. Mixing of two show strains has resulted in some interesting variation. We do not recommend showing these as some may not be what the APA Standard requires. Chicks $5.00 (10) (SOLD OUT FOR THE ENTIRE 2010 SEASON)

Happy reading Punky.

Think what you will, He said they were show stock, so I guess he is a liar.

I must see pics to be sure but I still think they are EE.

I'm not saying that they don't have SQ birds but I'm saying that's its not likely
