Silkies can be booted and none booted. The ones with feathered feet usually have domed heads and tons of feathers up there, too. So, yes, you may very well have a silkie. Usually the skin is black; is it?Ok quick question... I just got chick number 2 out and noticed it has feathered legs. So I am wondering if booted chicks are silkies or if silkied birds have feathered legs at all? I know smooth have feathered legs but just curious since I am holding out hope it is a silkie.
Okay, I just checked, and no brown on wings at all. He was a black chick, so he's a BrownRed? I think I've got it. Thanks!!
I've gotten a lot of Serama eggs that had thick shells, and I couldn't see through them very well. Yes, the veining starts on one side and generally, until they get so big, the development will be on one side. You will see, hopefully, a dark spot soon, that's the head and eye close to the shellAlrighty - so I kept four eggs from my botched frozen shipment. I have never hatched eggs before, and I really have no idea what I'm looking for when I check them. One seems to have some veining but it looks like its right up against one side. Is that normal?
Another egg looks almost completely dark, can't see a thing through it.
The other two look clearish. Im not sure when to toss them or how to know what's going on! help?
I'll put my hat in the ring and say I think she's a girl too!
LOL, I'm really happy my boy isn't so plain now, especially since I have other chickens that are solid black or whiteThis is exacly what happened to my black cockrel. One day he's all black then the next he has copper flakes one his hackels. I have a quick question what is the differnts between american seramas and malaysian seramas?
The black skin would be the best indication of a silkie because Seramas also can have feathered legs (thought the toes aren't usually as well feathered as known feathered breeds)Yes, I bought some eggs from a breeder in MI and so far chick #2 is very fuzzy but the legs are feathered and I was curious if anyone has info on the booted type? I have never had chicks from Seramas and not sure if the silkie feathered have feathered legs or if a silkie can be just fuzzy or if they do have feathered legs? Thanks!
I think so. I'm having a heck of a time figuring out my 10 week old Crevecoeur chicks! Today, I saw them sparring a bit. They all look alike, but one was a little more frisky, yet not the most male looking of the bunch (not the biggest) I highly suspect I have all hens though...? But they could all end up roos? Wish I knew!!Yes! My Toy has a dark pick comb and shows wattles now. If that holds true I do have 3 hens! So even the baby hens spar some in play?
She's so adorable! Of course they all are, but oooohhhhh, so CUTE!
Well I ordered eggs from a Serama breeder and the assortment included silkie, frizzled and smooth Serama eggs. I was not sure if silkie Seramas have feathered legs but now I am also curious if Seramas have the bluish skin? Nickie is simply Serama with no bluish skin but I am curious if you are saying that silkied seramas have bluish skin like the breed of silkies? Thanks for responding too.Silkies can be booted and none booted. The ones with feathered feet usually have domed heads and tons of feathers up there, too. So, yes, you may very well have a silkie. I was told by a silky breeder to also add ground oats or it may have been ground wheat not sure right now, maybe someone on here knows. Any way add to chick feed and no pasty butt. Didn't have a one with my 4 babies.
Oh my gosh, that's so cute, LOL!!! Seriously try giving them raw apple cider vinegar in their water or give them yogurt, if you hatched them, they really shouldn't be stressed, causing pasty butt?? Try those two things to give them good bacteria and enzymes for their tummies??
Oh, I think we both thought you were wondering if you had a silkie chick instead of a Serama chickWell I ordered eggs from a Serama breeder and the assortment included silkie, frizzled and smooth Serama eggs.
