American serama thread!

HI,
Have been following the thread forever...but decided to share today.
I am sooooo excited..........my little hen killer, (there is a story behind the name)has chicks due anytime.
Hatch date,21 days, is Thursday....I gave her grapes for a treat today .When she got up, i picked up an egg to check it.
It screamed at me .....I almost dropped it.was way louder than a chirp. Anyway, Killer reacted so I put it back.
Am expecting a hatch anytime.....Have not had chicks in a year or so and just wanted to share my excitment
with folks I know will undersand =) Thanks

I cant believe this hen is still alive...she seems to be doing better and her color is back to normal..she isnt walking around but she is sitting up with her head tilted backwards...but her eyes look clear...i think she got very cold...i am purchasing one of those ceiling heaters that wont be such a fire hazard.

This hen was on her back with her feet up in the air twice...i dont know if i should have tried to save her...might just be prolonging her death?

BTW...I have been incubating some of her eggs this last month...only one made it to the 20th day...which is today...so maybe it will hatch...would like to have one chick from her just in case she dies...its in lockdown now...so fingers crossed!!!
Oh, well I for one am glad she is doing better! and I really hope you can hatch her egg!!!

Guess who is getting not one but TWO pairs tomorrow? Yes, ME!!!! I'm so excited. Never mind that my cage won't arrive until Thursday. I have dog crates they can live in until the cages arrive and are set up. I found the perfect bases for the cages. Writing desks from Home Depot. I was walking through looking for something else and saw them. They are 2'x4' so I bought three and put the end to end so I can get a duplicate cage for the second pair.

What am I getting? A beautiful Wheaten pair who have been named Sherlock and Agatha and a white frizzle cockerel with a smooth white female that I named Castle and Beckette.

I've been happy dancing around here!
Huge congratulations to you!
Congrats!! You will love them!

And here is one of my young pairs enjoying some time in the chicken playpen in the grass, outside their off-the-ground cages... Marilyn (6 1/2 months old silkied boy) and Kahlua (about 4 1/2 months old)

I
Beautiful! Is the boy a silky?
So do they need grit if they are only eating chick crumble?
No but it's nice to feed them a bit of grass or mealworms, etc... when a bit older. They love it! And the grass is good for them, it's what they would eat in the wild (that and berries and other greens

What color are your birds? They're beautiful. love the beige of the hen!

I know, she almost looks mille fleur? but no dark speckles!

Come to think of it, Sirius started trying to dominate the girls about two weeks ago, he tries to grab their necks and hold them. He hasn't figured out the next step yet though,

I took pictures of my newest pair just now. The frizzle one is definitely a boy, but I'm kinda holding out hope for the other one to be a girl, though I think it looks like a boy. He has wattles with color already also, LOL. So really, except for eternal hope, I have two boys! LOL

I think the cockerel is black tailed buff, but I'm not sure of the little pullets color. The lady I got her from called her beige I think, and then someone suggested she is a gold cocopop. Her breast is all laced. I'm not really sure, honestly. I just call her "pretty". :)

That baby looks more silkied to me, but time will tell with the feathering. They are cute as can be!

And yes, these guys are precocious! They crow early, and try everything else roosterish early... Big men in tiny bodies :D
