American serama thread!

What a beautiful rooster!
I got 5 chicks so far. Not the best photo but gives you an idea. Get better ones later. ALSO! Have new baby goats born last night!

dying of cuteness overload!! i'd love some goats- maybe some day!

got a few pics of boaz- he get special one on one every nite- i think he is getting a bit fed up with the camera though!

Toy Boy and Holly Berry get lots of handling love time also. Soon when the other chicks are old enough they will have to go out and make a flock. Kinda hard to have a rooster in my bedroom that is getting very good at crowing! I may try to keep a couple of hens as house chickens.

I'm going to have to keep my charlie, a sultan cockerel, in the house a lot it seems, and I refuse to have another pen of any sort other than his night box... so Charlie is getting a diaper tomorrow. Ugh, can't believe I'm diapering one of my chickens!

DH says he's too loud and makes me take him back inside around 4 PM, that means many hours in the house. Hope a diaper works!

To answer the question, the differences between serama and kapan are such things as back length, back shape, neck shape, proportion of head to body (unique dwarfing gene not in kapan) and leg length (another gene not in kapan, but is foi\und in U.S. in Ohiki). Kapan are fairly small, can be under 500 grams in cocks, but serama are almost always under 400 grams, with some mature roosters in the low 200 gram range and healthy.

Imports are NOT banned in the U.S. That is an erroneous statement. Several imports have taken place in the last couple years of different breeds. True Malaysian serama were imported to other countries from which the U.S. can import them. And this is currently being arranged. Hopefully the number will be great enough to either fix or replace the current serama flock here.
