American serama thread!

I want to candle my eggs Wednesday. That will be day 6, but I have some questions. Do I just take out one egg at a time out of the incubator real quick leaving the lid on or can the lid be left off while I candle the eggs?

I'm so scared to do it! I need some hand holding here!

I do 1 at a time. I usually place a wet washcloth in to compensate for the humidity lose when I open the bator then take it out when I am finished candling.

Thanks for the advice. It may be a moot point now. When I checked the incubator this morning the temp was 80F!!! I don't know what happened. There's power to it and the power failure thingy wasn't flashing. I have to call Brinsea...

:(

Could it be going through it's cooling cycle?

The silkie serama is about 2 weeks and the other is about 4. I just adore them!
Too cute!
Here's Little Man holding his own up against a big Brahma Mama. Little Man is about 6 months old.

Really love Little Man!
Here are two of my boys...the black silkied is just 6 1/2 months old, and the frizzled guy is close to 3 months, both still very much babies. BoogeyMan, the black one, though, is already an old pro on the table...he just stood there and posed his heart out. What a good boy! (And he was mean as a snake 6 weeks ago... LOL!)

Both are gorgeous, but I just LOVE BoogeyMan's attitude!

Those are some very good looking boys you have. I like small birds with big attitude!!...lolol... From what I can se in this pic, BoogeyMan is very vertical, good wing set and very nice chest. He's young but I think he'll get even better with age. With my silkied, I find they mature slower than straight feather.
Are you going to our San Marcos show next month? It's the same weekend as the CC..April 13.

Thanks for the kind words about my guys, you guys! :D

I am planning to bring birds to the San Marcos show, including Boogs. I have an exchequer boy who's never been shown, a buff silkied who needs to re-grow his sickles before then, and a couple others (including my two older pullets) who I may bring. Thinking of bringing the young babies (they'll be 4 months old) mostly for experience for them...we shall see what they look like by then

:D

This is Mayla at 6 months...

and her brood at 6mo. Yep, they're on my bed but the spread needed washing anyway....lolo

This little girl is smaller than some of my 4mo olds. There's one more pullet that's not pictured because she's setting on 6 eggs.

Sooooooo pretty! One of these days I'll get my little paws on some of your babies, Sandra! :D

Gonna be hatching out babes for the Easter Hatchalong from eggs Carol Hansen is sending...I can't wait to see what I get from hers!

Duh! Yes!!!! Maybe there's hope yet. I did candle three of the twelve eggs and didn't see anything at all.

The hens make it look so easy!:p
