American serama thread!

Oh man guys, so I had one little guy who was set a week behind so I was waiting to see if he hatched. The last night my two barnyard mix eggs (from my own flock WOOHOO!!) were hatching SUPER fast and that got him started.
Well I had to leave for the night but when I cam back in the morning, this is what I found -

I just about DIED laughing! I had to get everyone in the house to come check him out before I helped him hatch. He was totally ready, had probably been dry for hours, just got stuck! I really wanted to pull his other leg out a hole on the other side and see if I could get him to do the cartoon egg, but that seemed cruel so I just got him out =P

what a sweety! Is it common to have one hatch that much later than the others?

POOR little one! SO glad miss human came to help him! LOL

I thought it was pretty hilarious
He is acting a little strange though. Sort of lethargic? It's possible it's normal baby behavior and I just think it's weird because the other babies have so much energy? now I don't know

How long did the baby struggle like that? How long has it been out of the shell now? It might just be exhausted from his birthing struggles....

I just got my first Serama yesterday! Her name is Gabby because when I hold her she talks to me. She is in my home and will remain with me inside. I knew nothing about the breed but a nice lady told me how calm and friendly they are. I was at a show and watched when they were judged..I am very impressed and will have lots of questions. I have Silkies but did not find any for sale so then I saw the Seramas. She came from a gentleman from Indiana. Anything special I should know about this breed and the care of them?q

I have no idea how long he was stuck like that. He was just pipping when I left him at about 10pm and I didn't see him again until 9 the next morning. He is a few days old now though so I would think any hatching fatigue would have subsided by now.

Hi,
Welcome......You came to the right place............

Lots of information and help. As you have time, you may want to browse through the old posts...................
She is very pretty . I have one of my roosters in the breakfast nook and I doubt he will ever leave there.
Like your girl, he talks to us all the time and does this funny little dance to get grapes..............
I was going to call him chatty Charlie............but am thinking Buddy now because he is one.
One thing that is easy to miss is that they need to have their toenails and beaks clipped.
I do mine about twice a year...some a little more often because they grow fast.
I just use fingernail clippers.........they are use to it and do not seem to mind.
The other thing I can think of is being careful that they do not get anything to big to swallow..............
I lost a beautiful Rooster from getting a sunflower caught in his throat. Still makes me ill to think of it.
I just could not get it out..
Other than that just have fun and I am certain others will give you helpful hints..................or answer questions..........
