American serama thread!

I'll toss in my 2cents to this. I live in southern CA and my seramas live outside BUT in the winter (yes rest of the country laugh) I put plastic on one side of their run so there is no cold breeze AND their coop is insulated. When the temps go below 40 I use purple reptile bulbs to give them a little warm and that works well. I do have 2 micros that come in the house every night and sleep next to me in a box and entertain me at night <3

What do your micros weigh? Do they lay? I doubt that they do... But I am Curious. I have 2 size a hens

The box is just a cardboard one I painted black to match my DAYCOR ;)

the roo PEENUT hasn't started laying yet...:p and
Princess lays soft shelled eggs on occasion.
the barred girl lays silly little NORMAL eggs (thank U lord! )

As for weight I haven't the foggiest, never go by weight at the shows, so i do not bother with that nonsense.

She is beautiful. I love the color. I'm hoping my Frizzy's eggs hatch this time. Her first clutch of eggs were clear due, hopefully, to very long vent feathers. She raised a couple of Japanese bantam chicks and has started to lay again. Her nest has two eggs today; 4 more to go. Frizzy's vent feathers have been trimmed. Is Marble laying eggs yet?

I candled Frizzy's eggs this morning and they are fertile; chicks before Christmas-yeah!

YEAH! Congratz! My serama pullets haven't layed since november 21st, Should I be worried?
If your birds look great chances are there is nothing wrong. It's fall and many birds are molting. The shortening day length can also cause hens to quit laying. Could either of these be reasons why your hens stopped laying? The good news is that day length will be soon getting longer if your in the northern hemisphere.

they look fine. thanks for helping. the seller said that one is about a year old. So It shouldnt be molting, the other is only like, six months old. So if she doesn't lay for a while i won't be worried

Chickens can molt before they are a year old.

Your 6 month old could lay at any time. Of those 11 serama chicks I hard hatch last spring, seven were pullets. One started to lay a few days past 3 months, a mink killed one, four started to lay around 4 months of age, and the last pullet started to lay a week past 5 months.
