American serama thread!

Chickens can molt before they are a year old.

Your 6 month old could lay at any time. Of those 11 serama chicks I hard hatch last spring, seven were pullets. One started to lay a few days past 3 months, a mink killed one, four started to lay around 4 months of age, and the last pullet started to lay a week past 5 months.
I rather think that people do not believe that a pullet started to lay at three months; if someone told me they had that happen I would have a hard time believing such a thing, but it did. The hen hatched May 1st and during the first week of August the pullet was laying and by the end of August she was brooding-none of the eggs hatched, but they were fertile.

That is really cool. I have a little frizzle pullet that I hatched for the Halloween HAL. Its only like 5 or 6 weeks old and I really want eggs from her

Gracie is raising her first clutch that hatched 22 days ago.
Today she began laying again.
Ever see a hen begin laying that fast?

That is really fast... I have never let a broody brood eggs before... Next one I probably will

Your hen is beautiful! All three of my serama hens started to lay when the chicks were about a month old. What was odd is that the hens continued to care for their chicks for a few days after they started to lay. I have never seen chickens do that before.

Thank you.
If my hens only have 2 chicks, they don't seem to ever chase them away.
Gyda is still hanging out with her 2 month old pair of chicks.
Lagertha still sleeps every night with both wings over her 3 & 1/2 month old chicks.
