American serama thread!

Thank you.
If my hens only have 2 chicks, they don't seem to ever chase them away.
Gyda is still hanging out with her 2 month old pair of chicks.
Lagertha still sleeps every night with both wings over her 3 & 1/2 month old chicks.
Serama sure are different and a great deal of fun. My hens did finally drive the chicks away. One of my silkies, the one that hatched the avatar hen, allowed that one chick into her nest after she started to brood for the second time. The avatar hen was a great deal smaller than her siblings and she slept for a long time under her silkie mother who was brooding eggs.

Serama are full of surprises.
When the roo in my avatar, Peanut, was young,
I put two incubator hatchlings with him & he raised them like a hen for a month.

Now that is cute!!! I started with serama last spring and have a lot to learn. Much about serama is different from other breeds. How long have you been raising serama?

5 years.
I finally got the brown bred out of my roos this year.
For me it's trying to get the right shape. My wife bought me the eggs off ebay as a surprise. Of the eleven chicks that hatched only three look anything like serama. The rest look like cross breed bantams. So far I have just one second generation pullet that looks very hopeful in posture and size.

I had a fun incubator smoothie that I raised by hand.
joe ran with the cats.

Cute. I wish my roosters looked more like Joe. I have just one serama rooster I like, my others are just to long and lanky. I'm not crazy about the color and I've been told his legs are too short. But he's one neat little bird. I keep worrying that some day I'll step on him.; has no fear of me and quite the pest.
