American serama thread!

Jessie,
I am so sorry! How devastating! I still have not put my Serama's on the ground for fear of something like that. Mine are in welded wire cages off the ground. I don't know if you call that predator proof but other than keep them inside, I wouldn't know what else to do. By next year though, I hope to have some day runs for them but only for day time as a treat, wow. No ideas here on what could have happened and I think that would be harder to deal with than knowing.

June,
They are gorgeous

Check out this link, it shows the ideal Serama type. You won't find "perfect" out there for sale, but it will give you a basis on which to compare.

Thanks for the link. I checked it out and added it to my favorites so I can refer back to it. I think the ones I will be choosing from are some of the "melting pot" of colors kind. I suppose if I find some pure colors in this batch that I can still get about anything out of them, but I think I'll start with these and see how it goes from there.

I may have to check out some of the blacks. I love black chickens, especially if they have good feather quality...but I'm not too fond of the silkied or frizzled feathers.

Jessi, so sorry and shocked to hear about your birds. It's really devastating and you lost so many! I am in Versailles and have just hatched out 16 Seramas and have 8 more in the bator. I know you are incubating but if I have anything you can use, it would be easy for you to come and see what I have. It is scary to think that there is some predator in our area that is so sneaky! Very frustrating when you don't know who the enemy is! I guess you just have to put it behind you and move forward. I hope you are still going to be at the show on Sat. If so, look forward to meeting you.
