American serama thread!

Rice warmer is the only name i can figure out for the thing I have lol , Its a long tube of fleece matiral that is filled with rice you can put it in the freezer if you need a cold pack or putit in the microwave and heat it up for a heating pack its long enough to hang around my neck or I can kinda cural it around and sit it on my stomic ect , they love it I warm it up then sit it on my chest or whateer and get them out and they snuggle with it and I get to hold babies that arnt all cold.

Oh, now I know what you're talking about! What a great idea! I know we have one of those things around here somewhere.........???

CHocolate and dun are two separate genes. The chocolate makes a very dark brown and it is uniforn in color. The dun creates a multitude of tannish grays, browns, etc on the same bird. You definitely have a dun bird and you have the ability to create platinum, which is dun on blue.

This is an excellent thread to read from it's entirety, because it focuses on the genes your bird is carrying. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/456039/post-your-chocolates-dun-khaki-platinum-bird-pics

I think you have found an excellent bird for your breeding.

Thank you Lorilyn! That was very helpful, and I will be reading that thread! I know so little about genitics, and I know it gets even tougher with these guys, but I am ready to learn!

Three out of the first four have hatched....officially a serama hatcher!!! WOOOOTTTTTTTT!!!!!
Congrats! My first Serama hatch took 21 days, and it gave me the best birds I could start out with. I have to keep reminding myself of this when I get impatient on day 20. Can't wait to see your chicks grow up!

How does it work for you? I'm getting one soon I hope. About how many Bantam eggs can it hold? That's one thing I was worried about.
Not sure quite yet haha, this is my very first hatch! But so far it as been SUPER easy. It took me less than 10 mintes to set the whole thing up from right out of the box and have the settings where I want and get my eggies in. Seems to be incredibly user friendly! The one thing I can't figure out, I think it might beep when it turns or when it counts down a day because every night it makes this funny high pitched triple beep and then I hear the motor go at like 3 am - it's in my room lol
It also seems to hold temperature super well! My house is insanely cold because we don't use a heater and it is staying right up at 99.9 and 100 just fine.

If you buy the small egg disc that holds 12, but honestly my serama eggs touch eachother in the small disc, so there really isn't much wiggle room. The standard one only holds 7 and if you decided to hand turn you could probably fit 18 or 20 serama eggs without any disc.

What about cutting each individual section of the egg carton? Kind of like a cup for each egg.
Thats a really good idea, but room is so extrememly limited I don't know that I could fit them all in there like that. If I did, do you turn your eggs when they are like that? how does that work?

CONGRATULATIONS!!! you lucky duck =D

Thank you kukupecpec, good to know getting the smaller wheel probably won't work too well.

I couldn't keep my hands off my eggs last night. It was so nice and dark, so I candled again and found another egg that is developing! So I now have 3 eggs developing and am very happy! See? It's worth letting them sit in the incubator for a while longer even if you think they're not developing!

Chances have now become extremely slim, however I will keep the eggs in there until day 7, Monday night. I am worried I see spots on a couple and don't want them rotting in there, LOL. They're red spots, so at the same time I'm hoping they develop, but they won't, I know they're dead........
