American serama thread!

I felt attacked too, and insulted. I have done my research, and don't understand how what is true in other poultry breeds doesn't apply to serama's, or why the name they are called matters, but whatever. After it was pointed out how to block what I viewed as offensive, problem solved.

Back to Serama's.
My little cockeral has developed a habit of doing the nasty with my hand when I reach in the cage.

Any ideas on how to discourage him, lol?

That is awful and hilarious at the same time. Thanks for making me squeal.

LOL, did too :)

Agreed! I learned so much from Mom and Dad!!!

My darling Charlie is LOUD (a Sultan) and I put him in a dog crate (small one) after everyone goes to sleep, then let him out again after 9:30 AM. He sleeps in there in the house (as I don't want him to get cold this time of year all alone) I put a blanket over the dog crate (one of those thick moving blankets is perfect) and if he crows in there, it's very muffled, we don't hear it while sleeping. In the morning when I let him back with his ladies, they don't seem to have missed him, they don't act like he is somebody they don't know (which is what I was worried about) and it's getting to be routine for them. I plan on making a box in the coop so I can just put him in there from the roost. I plan on a slightly complex vent system and sound proofing. This will simply make it easier for me to deal with on a daily basis. I've noticed that total darkness is really the best solution, they just sleep. though they will be startled by loud noises and crow then. Hope that helps! When I get this thing finished I'll post about it!
The problem with the poster was that they were so negative, dismissed any rebuttal rudely and attacked people, in my opinion. Also, the point is completely mute unless his point was to give the American Serama a different name, Kapan. Ok, fine, give it another name if you like, but we know the bird as a Serama now, so that's what we call it. There is nothing that can be done about it anymore, imports are no longer possible. So lets move on!
Yes, and I felt there was a definite attack on forum members, so I reported it. they have been blocked since I realized what they were.

But heck, it got the thread moving again!

How is everyone? Anyone have some kapan........er I mean Serama pictures to post?

Thanks so much for the info! I wondered if anyone else had tried this as a solution. I am going to try this to hopefully keep him from crowing at 6:30 am. Glad everyone agrees to move on from being fussy. I believe in asking questions. To say all or most ARE kapan and noot Serama is blanketing all our feathered kids in a judgemental and have no way to know that as a fact. we have beautiful birds to us. I hope that I never offend anyone because I am the first to admit I don't know everything.

I forgot to ask... You aren't a hand model are you?

The biggest import was gatherd by Albert Tan im Malaysia. His reputation among Malaysians is poor and they were quite aware of what he had done. Early on, they had tried to warn us, and that is when the original smear campaign started, creating this web of lies that now surrounds the serma in the U.S.

The smaller import was put together by Robest Young. The birds he sent here were of much higher quality and were true serama. However, they were not many in number and their offspring were ot widely distributed as the importer was not looking to make a buck like the bigger one.

Well, there are threads where people have talked about it. Try searching for Rooster Box or something. Some don't think the darkness will matter, but it has worked on my Charlie

Lots of my hens squat when I come up to them. I think I read somewhere that it was an "intimidation" thing and that it shows they know you are above them in rank so to speak. I don't know for sure, just what I seem to recall reading. It makes them easier to catch for sure! LOL

More food for thought: if genetics doesn't matter and importing kapan and naming them seram here is OK, why didn't we instead use nankins, or OEGB or japanese banatms, breed them to a new standard and call them serama? If we aren't using serama blood, why bother importing kapan?

Lol, thanks guys. I wanted "friendly", and guess I got what I asked for. Hopefully when his ladies mature he will redirect his affections to them. My hand must be attractive to poultry, I had the same problem with my call duck drake last year too.

That's cute about the leghorn, mine is slightly evil and has super long spurs, and she's a hen. I don't think she's impressed with my little bantam roosters, and has decided as one of the few large fowl around here she had to step up and be the man, lol.
