American serama thread!

Hey all, this topic has prolly been done to death but do you guys in the northern climes use supplemental heat in the coop or not? This is my first winter with Seramas and I don't want to lose any of them. I'm in NJ.View attachment 1540143

This is my little silkied Serama cockerel, Grumpy, from my @WVduckchick hatch. I love him to death!!

Here is an older picture (May) of my babies...View attachment 1540149

From L to R: Grumpy's butt, Negan, Fergus, and Suzi. Suzi and Grumpy are the most tame, they fly up on my lap. I can't even express how much I love these tiny birds. There is just something about them. :love:love:love
I love your little "Grumpy." Our Teddy is a likely a sibling of your boy. (also from @WVduckchick )
We are very much in love with our spoiled Teddy.

Here's some siblings having a little spat. They are 8wks old tomorrow. The spitzhauben looks very female. I've also been thinking the silkie-serma mix may also be female. What do you think?
The comb looks flat like a silkie pullet. The chick looks mostly silkie except for the serama wing position & maybe wattles instead of the beard & cheeks. The crest is also very small as a result of the mix.

For 8 weeks, I’d say that’s safely a pullet. :clap

I know she isn't full Serama but I'm heart broken. My sister dog killed Tribble..

Oh no!! So sorry. :hit

He's adorable!!! He does look very much like my Grumpy. Same colored silkied feathers, even the same red coloration on their legs. Mine is very submissive and meek, he really is so sweet! :love

They must have inherited their attitudes from their mom. Dad is a major spazz-o! :gig

I guess so. Teddy got his name because he's as soft & cuddly as a Teddy Bear. Even now at 6 mo, he loves to cuddle. Not mean or aggressive in any way. He'll be a house chicken when it gets colder. I think we'll also bring Noodle inside for a companion. I think the OEG & silkie hatch-mates will be OK outside. Hopefully they'll all go back to being friends in spring. We're only getting down to 48'F at night, so there's still more time for them to be together.

Pictures please!!! Of mom and dad?

I'm hatching an egg from Fergus in about a week and a half! She is my beautiful little cream colored baby (I call her my dove) with green legs...can't wait to see what that one looks like!

Of course, I will send pics of your grandchicky! :)

I’m pretty sure this is the dad of Teddy and Grumpy. He was molting a bit in this pic, and it’s after he lost his comb tips over the winter

This is 2 of his son’s, but I don’t think either were old enough at the time to father Grumpy or Teddy. I sold both of these guys

And these are the moms, still going strong.

And a couple sisters below. They are both laying now too. But I’ve switched spazz-o out of that pen now.
