American serama thread!

BTW sumatra503 Charles is really handsome.
Thank you! I love charles and his color.

This is actually the body type I like in a serama.

Within me, though are these two voices that nag at eachother. One voice argues to breed true to type and the other argues that traditional type may not be the kindest for the birds.

Who knows. All I do know is that this posture is one that I like and that others like, too. regardless of tradition and other such things.

update on ruth, i have been putting neosporin on her eye, and seems to be helping, she is preening and opening the eye more.

found a girl just right for boaz, not a serama but an old english game hen (I think) anyway- this is ginger and she seems to be able to tone him down some...

So, long breast is something you want? In any breed it is possible to have too long of a breast, but his is the right length, then.

Would a serama need a shorter back and saddle in order to achieve the correct posture?

I'm just trying to learn the mechanics of serama posture and how it is achieved.

i'm not saying that his back can be just miraculously shortened, however, were it possible to suddenly change him up I'm just wondering what could be changed to make him correct in type.

select a short back and breed for type look at the Standard and you will see once you have the short backs they dont need to be pose and they just walk around like that . That is why this breed is so special ...

Short back, long legs, and big chest is what a seramas is no matter what color you have to have type first ...

No matter what kind of seramas , Type over everything ... This little guy was bred by Jacob seem he is learning very quickly ... Even in frizzle I see so many lack the legs and can't stand tall and proud. But Jacob fix that in his line . He gave this boy to me which I donated to a 4-Her program so we are very happy with that .

This is " Type " ....

Here is my deal I will listen when you can show me how to control the COCOA-PATTON color and breed them true like I have . Along with type and size .Just like Jerry said before A seramas with out type is just a small chicken ... Balance is everything ... TYPE >>>>

Hey Ken, When you want to sell this guy, let me know. He is still my favorite. I love the look and the proud stance/pose. He is perfect to me!

Ok, so I have no clue about correct and incorrect confirmation...I only know what looks good to me ;) So I am a Serama Noob! My first Serama, Zero, happened to be by chance. I ended up bringing him home and didn't even know what it was! Now I have 3 more from Jerry. Here are so updated pics.

This is my lovable Zero, that is about 12 weeks. Any ideas on color? He looks kinda long to me? He's very very small, about 2/3 the size of my 1 month old pullets. The little 4 week old chick is catching up with him!

This was supposed to be a little pullet that turned into a cockerel (I always always get roos!) Anyways, I think he is cool, and real sweet. I am guessing its a cocopop color. His feathers on the back look kinda quail colored (I think that is the cocopop concept?).

Thanks for the tips!

I have looked at the standard, but was wondering which parts of the bird contributed to this special conformation.

Yes, type is what defines a breed as a breed, not color. Type is what makes them Serama and not a Dutch Bantam or something.

First one most likely be a BB Red and the last one is not a cocoapop but a Chocolate Mottled ...
