Controversial I know, but I despair of a world where some people dream of shooting guns. Guns should be a last resort, not our highest aspiration.

Agreed.

To answer a few other posts, if you join the military, you must expect that you will be posted to a war zone sooner or later. The military has no other purpose other than to kill people and, in the process, sacrifice its own young lives.

I am SPEECHLESS. Good thing they didnt do PEACE KEEPING MISSIONS in the balkans. Good thing they dont go out after natural disasters and help if needed. What qualifies you to say that the militarys sole purpose is to kill?

Shooting a gun should be a last resort?

That can be interpreted in a lot of ways

Shooting ranges wouldn't be as much fun if I had to throw rocks at a target (plus, hey.. I throw like a girl...........)
hunting deer would also be interesting.. Jumping on them and trying to slit their throat wouldn't be my first choice by any means. They are bigger.. faster.. more adept at moving through the brush than most people I know and I think a well placed shot would be much more humane than trying to do it this way
Home intrusion.. "oh please mister.. wait right there and don't kill me while I call 911 and wait for the police to arrive.... we live out in the sticks and they have to find my address first.. would you like a cup of tea while we wait?.. it's probably going to be a good half hour by the time they find us...."

Being in a war zone the last thing my husband wants to have to do is to be put into a situation where he has to shoot at someone.. But I am glad he has spent many many.. MANY hours out on the range learning HOW to safely shoot those weapons just in case the need ever arises to defend himself or the guys he works with

We used to watch the TV show "Sons of Guns".. which is what I was thinking about when I made that other post. Guys on there being ecstatic because they had the opportunity to shoot guns that are not readily available (or available at all) unless you are in the military.. (older) guys who are getting the chance to use guns that they had saved when they had been in a war or who had belonged to their father or grandfather which were junk before they were taken apart, cleaned, repaired and reassembled
But I supposed they would have been just as happy to be handed a slingshot and a rock.........

Many years of observing what they do.

The non-killing roles are peripheral. Without the will to go to war there would be no military.

THANK YOU!

My husband is over there trying to keep the roads clear so others DO NOT GET KILLED
removing bombs that OTHER PEOPLE left .. helping to REPAIR ROADS
Plus helping t train their people how to protect their own people... and now he has to worry about one of them turning a gun on himself or others...

Yes he is armed.. but that is to protect himself and others. NOT to take pot shots at people and to try to kill as many as possible

he hopes to never have to fire his weapon while he is there.. or to take a life with any weapon
if he were there to kill people he would have already had that chance a thousand times over

I think that you have misunderstood what newfoundland wrote. He was referring, I think, to the use of guns in anger to kill people.

I hope that he doesn't and comes back safely.
