Ancona Ducks

I have a 3 tier brooder full of ducklings and chicks. Plus I've got 17 ohiki chick's, 2 choc orps, 1 black orp, plus 2 anconas in the nursery

Just went through the ranks of my almost 2 month old Anconas and I gotta say, I'm not so sure if I'm oki with it.

When checking everyone out and listening to their voice I could only hear about 3 or 4 females out of 11! So I got way too many drakes, mostly blue, which are not that common as Ancona colors go. Now to go and find some of those drakes new homes :(

bummer i'm still waiting on my babys for voice sexing they are 1 week old today

One more Ancona question. When did your anconas start laying? I'm just wondering. My husband eats two eggs every morning almost. It's crazy. Then he will often have atleast one more later in the day. Then, because daddy is so cool, my son will want an egg. Sometimes he eats two eggs too. These men are eating up all my eggs and I just want to know when to expect my girls to lay. Can't wait until I can run outside and hunt for eggs in the morning!
Our Anconas were ordered as day olds in June last year and started laying in October. They laid fairly well until about February, then pretty much stopped for about a month and a half.

Ok. Thanks. Just wondering. Will have to start feeding oyster shells when it's closer to egg time :)

awww:love your eggs have perfect timing if you put fake eggs under her and then put some of the babys under her when they hatch it will fix her broody problem ;)
she's sitting on 9 of her own eggs. She's being a good momma so far. Very protective of her nest. I've got a Pekin that goes broody every year and she's very protective but teens to break eggs due to her size.

My Anconas are a month old today!

And here they were 3 weeks ago with a mallard friend.

I'm new to Anconas, but they have been really fun so far!
