animal control came and said to get rid of my chickens!

Jen, thats exactly what I did. Then about 2 weeks later, the animal control came over. I've heard that this guy is just a bitter old man. But, he just won't let it go, he keeps calling the ACO, he's insistent to say the least. I really don't know what his problem is, but I can tell you this, it sure maddens me!

We are new here, we hope you made it through, its been a month or so since your post.

Our 9 year old will quote the city code word-for-word if anybody questions "Is it OK to have chickens in the city?" I really, really hope your town's city code allows for chickens. Ours includes a sentence"...except for birds and fish" when it forbids livestock. Our city code also bans "the sale or giving away of artificially dyed chicks", which sort of implies that residents sometimes have chicks.

We have overheard 2 local residents say "Who do they think they are with chickens in their yard", but we also receive visits almost daily from curious and pleasant neighbors.

Oh we hope your pet chickens are safe and sound in your loving care! Good Luck, please let us know how its going!

thank you so much 6 chickens in St. Charles! I'm still fighting it. They are still here, but not without the ACO coming by at least twice a week. I may have to keep them in my house crated for a couple weeks, just to get the neighbor off our back. We are going to relocate them to the other side of our yard, and put up a taller fence there as well. Did you read though, I CAN keep my ducks? My question is this, what's the difference????

I would get a yard full of duck see if I could drive the noisy neighbor crazy. See if they like a few chicks or a yard full of quacking ducks. My pekin duck is pretty loud.

Now my mother has a neighbor that tried to complain about her dogs barking. There were other issues about other things leading up to this. In this county there are no laws on animals. You pretty much can have what you want. There is no animal control. The neighbor complained to the police.

Anyway after taking crap from her neighbor for so long what she did was build a pen right on the property line. The way the property line runs and where she built the pen it is not very far feet wise to his windows or front door. My mom put exactly 100 guineas in the pen to live. Needless to say her neighbor doesn't complain about the dogs barking anymore.

I've been keeping up with your story and I'm wishing you a happy outcome. BTW are you allowed to have guineas?

Thats a good question?? I don't know about guineas. I heard they make some kind of racket thought

. It sure would serve the moron right huh? I know, I own 2 pekins, and they are much louder then my girls are, especially the female. I appreciate everyones concern, it makes me feel better. As of right now, I've got my girls in the house in a huge dog cage/crate. Poor little things, don't know what to think? I'm hoping that it won't be for long, then I can let them out on the other side of the yard. Who would think that chickens were such a bad thing? I can't believe some peoples mentality?

you need to fight this one. go to city board meeting and have them change the ordances. we had a similur run in with the law about our pigmy goats. i am a code enforcement officer. i see this type of complains everyday. When people don't get their way, they just complain. Animal control is also part of my department . We didn't give in. We went to the papers to the city board and the very next day. someone killed our one of our goats and one chicken. People are cruel. look us up. father of little rock's most wanted goats.
